I have been wanting a gun forever. It’s crazy out there? What caliber should I get?

  Check out your local gun ranges, and ask alot of questions. Get into a handgun class and learn safety first! Most females that I talk to love the 9 milimeter. But, there are also questions that need answered like… How much can I afford to spend on ammo? Will the 9mm stop a boogie man, or would a .40 cal be bettter? There are alot of knowledgable people out there… ask as many questions as you can, and train, train ,train!

  The .22 we bought became “my” pistol because we could get .22 snake-shot for eliminating critters on the property, but I really prefer my husband’s .32 for overall ease of handling. I’d say try a variety of handguns to see which one works best for you. Then buy ammo and practice until it’s second nature to you. The worst thing is to need to use a firearm and not be confident you can use it effectively.

  Hey Ashley – check out the Glock Model 22 semi-auto. After months of research and shooting various guns at the range, my daughter just purchased this. It’s a great gun for a woman because the grip is a nice size for smaller hands. It’s easy to shoot and it can be used for both target practice and self defense. She loves it and I like it so much I just might get one for myself. For self defense don’t get a .22 it’s too small — get either a 9mm, .38 special, .45 or like the Glock a .40.

  One more suggestion Ashley…sign up for an NRA Basic Pistol Class. Not only will you learn about safety and usage but you will get a certificate and you will be able to try out over 10 different guns of various calibers so you will know what feels best for you.

  Ashley, If you are a dainty little girl, don’t get a Bulldog .44 special revolver. If you aren’t and someone will let you try one out and you aren’t intimidated by it. You can do alot of manipulating the load to make you very happy. Revolvers are very reliable and easy to learn. It will “feed the bulldog”.

    i bought my wife the judge with a 3″ barrel and keep 000 buckshot in it ,everybody said she wouldn’t be able to handle it but it kicks less than my 357 ,i think the padded handles help alot ,it seems to kick straight back insted of up ,it shoots 45s real good to,she has no problem at all handling it ,it a good gun

  I have a 380. A 40 or 9m is too much gun for me (my dad has those. I can’t hold them well and the recoil is more than I can manage to re-set for a good fast 2nd shot) I am not a very big girl so the 380 works for me. Go to a reputable gun shop with an onsite range. They can help you decide and will have “rental” guns of different types you can test on the range. Shop / ranges will usually offer the gun safety course that will allow you to get the cert for your carry permit.

    They make S&W M&P With interchange backstraps – Maybe try one out and see how it does with your small frame/hands. Also steel frames will give better control on recoil. You may also try a revolver, you should be able to get a better grip on things. It also depends on how you seat the handle in your hand – there is also a way to hold it more into the meat slightly to get better control. At least you found something that works – be it a 22 or what, SHOT placement counts – better to have that than not.

  I have a teachig Gun saftey and sekf defence classes for 30 years and am a Vietnam war vet i’d like to add something thats been said, go to a gun shop with a eange, ASK questions test fire the guns see whats right for you. for self defence like whats been said, the 32 cal.with hollow points is good so is the 38, PLEASE stay from auto’s for this reason you MUST use it alotbecouse they take extra training and too many things can go wrong, it could stovepipe, autos are fussy,it likes a ccertin type of ammo,if you carry one in the chamber it can be risky so if you don;t you might forget to slide a round into the chamber in am emergency they can jam,autos are great if your trained and pratice alot with it, revolvers on the other hand are easy and fool proof and they ALWAYS work unless you buy bad ammo, Police went to the 9mm only becouse it can carry more rounds BUT isn’t a good selfdefence weapon, the 40 is good it has the knock down power BUT its abit rough for a women,i teach the best gun is the gun you can use safety and can hit the mark a gun that doesn;t fit you is useless thats why i say hit the gun ranges take classes charter arms is a GREAT weapon maker and ALOT of there gun are made with females in mind, i have one BUT its too small for my hand,but they are AWESOME hide guns you can hide them anywhere and theres a new holster out made bu flashbang made for women its a bra holster, i got one for my wife and her charter arms she loves it and can carry it anywhere and noone knows,there are also alot of nice purses out there made for carrying guns another thing about chatyer arms is you can get anywhere from the 32 cal to the 9mm the 38 cal and 357 mag and the 44 special in a revolver no need for carrying alot of rounds stats show that 98% of self defence gun attacks happon show the attacker is 1 to 20 foot if you casn’t hit the target in 20 feet PLEASE don’t carry the weapon,they will just take it away from you and use it on you,the first 2 rounds are the most important they are most the time going to decide the outcome of the fight, most the time the attaqcker see’s the gun and runs,attackers want a sure thing and a person with a gun isn’t a sure thing BUT some may challange you and try be ready to use it,guns are not to bluff with

  A .22 autoloader like a Beretta or a Browning is a good beginner weapon and easy to handle. (At least, that was the handgun I learned to shoot with and I had a good experience with it–easy to keep steady–but if you can’t tell from my prior comments, I’m not into handguns and prefer a shotgun.) If you haven’t ever done any shooting, you should start with that and work on target accuracy and then move up to a .38 or .40 if you insist on carrying concealed.
  
  But I agree, you should definitely get some local expert opinions. One good thing I can say about the NRA is that they do take safety seriously, but you should also check out your local sportsmen’s club–they often provide classes in firearm safety and maintenance and target shooting geared especially toward beginning female shooters and kids for a nominal fee + cost of ammunition. And the guys are all great. They like women with guns. Of all ages.
  Incidentally, I got my first instruction through clinics offered by our state’s DNR (yeah, the BIG EVIL GOVERNMENT THAT WANTS TO TAKE AWAY ALL YER GUNZ, PEOPLE OMG), and there’s also a great national program, usually supported by state DNRs, called “Becoming an Outdoorswoman”–basically a weekend camp for grown women who wished they could have joined the Boy Scouts instead of earning badges for childcare and makeup application. They usually have afternoon-long courses in firearm safety, target shooting, wing shooting (clay pigeons), sometimes deer and upland game hunting/field dressing, and even muzzle loading (the Tea Party would be so pleased, I know!) as well as self-defense. And other outdoor activites.
  Total cost, including bed and meals (except for the tequila and bourbon we bring to swig around the bonfire at night) is usually <$200 for three days, thanks to taxpayer subsidization. Yes, Big Government is subsidizing firearms training for women! I can just hear all your heads exploding.

Ashley, consider nothing less than a .38. I prefer the .40 myself. You get a big enough freak coming at you and you have those small calibre handguns all you will do is piss them off unless you have an absolutely perfect shot. Believe me, if your under that kind of pressure the odds of you placing that “magic bullet” are somewhat slim. Take the others advice also; train and train well.

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.
From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded
up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and
from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and
others who were unable to defend themselves were
rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935.
From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964.
From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded
up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970.
From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded
up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated
in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

You won’t see this data on the US evening news,
or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives
and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely
affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control,
please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are ‘citizens’. Without them, we are ‘subjects’.

  You’re right that totalitarian governments are terrifying, and that one of the ways in which they control the population is to prevent them from possessing weapons.
  
  But do you know who was responsible for rounding up all those Jews and other “undesirables,” who were being scapegoated for everything that had gone wrong with Germany from the Treaty of Versailles onwards? Do you know what the Freikorps were?
  
  The Freikorps was the German version of our “citizen militia.” It consisted of citizens with guns who considered themselves good, patriotic Germans. But they were also paramilitary groups around the country that included a lot of angry, alienated combat veterans who hated and resented the Weimar Republic (postwar Germany’s first parliamentary democracy) and were whipped up into a frenzy by industrialist war profiteers who had made a mint but now found that the new government was cramping their style by expecting them to pay their fair share.
  
  Anyways, Hitler played to the Freikorps’ members’ nationalistic streak, glorifying the “Volk” — white ethnic Germans with “traditional” values — telling them they were the true victims — and poisoning them against everyone else by telling them repeatedly that the Jews, Gypsies, etc. were taking all their jobs, their money, etc., and that communists, socialists, and trade unionists were morally depraved and wanted to take over the country and establish an international government that would do away with German sovereignty, blah, blah, blah. That was how the German Worker’s Party gained ground in the early 1920s.
  
  So when Hitler was appointed Chancellor in 1933 (thanks to Nazi gains in the Reichstag and the absence of a clear majority there, as well as the pressure of prominent businessmen) he dissolved the Reichstag, killed off all his major political opponents and imprisoned their supporters during the Night of Long Knives, outlawed trade unions, and created a one-party state. And to enforce his new regime, guess who he turned to? The Freikorps paramilitaries. He had them mostly eating out of his hand and they formed the Sturmabteilung (the Storm Detachment, the “brownshirts”), which eventually would be reorganized and reconstituted as the SS, who confiscated the weapons of and eventually rounded up those thirteen million Jews and other “enemies of the State” in order to exterminate them.
  
  So, yeah. Citizen militia to stormtrooper in three easy steps. With guns, we may be “citizens,” but given the right economic and political conditions, we can also become murderers. Would you take away your opponents’ firearms because you considered them an ideological threat? Would you dehumanize people who you didn’t consider “real Americans,” claiming that they were responsible for all the crime and economic trouble and moral decadence–gradually denying them rights–until you decided they needed to be rounded up and imprisoned as terrorist threats?
  
  I’m going to assume here that despite our differing political views and perspectives on Second Amendment issues that we all want our country to be safe and strong and to be able to defend it at a moment’s notice–that’s certainly my desire, too. But please, think carefully. We could all easily go from “citizens” to “subjects” just as easily as those disillusioned Freikorps members did in the 1920s, with or without guns, and lose our humanity in the process. And that scares me.

BTW, the “VOLKSWAGEN” is the ‘People’s car.’ Hitler rose to power by promising ‘the people’ lots of goodies if they just backed him. Look what happened. Germans by the tens of millions had weekly paycheck deductions for their very own Volkswagens but never got them. Instead they got incinerated in Dresden, killed by the millions and had their country destroyed. Let’s all go vote for Obama so he can give us all free stuff.

  Raymond, all liberals or gun haters should be required, by law, to have signage stating that they are a gun free zone. Said signage must be posted on all entrances and windows of their homes. This will alert all riff-raff of the availability of an easy target to rob, rape, murder, kidnap, assault, or commit other choice negative acts upon the occupants.
  
  However as your friend said his liberal neighbor freaked when he posted a sign. What does this say about the neighbor? They cannot have it both ways, but they certainly try.

Manslaughter For Shooting A Man 6 Times In The Back As He Was Running Away With Her Purse. ~

The Following Monday Morning, The Woman Was Called In Front Of the arraignment Judge, Sworn In, And asked to explain her actions. The woman replied, “I was standing at the corner bus stop for about 15 minutes, waiting for the bus to take me home after work. I am a waitress at a local cafe. I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol, that was in my purse, that was hung over my left shoulder. All of a sudden I was being spun around hard to my left. As I caught my balance, I saw a man running away from me with my purse. I looked down at my right hand and I saw that my fingers were wrapped tightly around my pistol. The next thing I remember is saying out loud, “No Way Punk! You’re not stealing my pay check and tips.” I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and squeezed the trigger of my pistol 6 times!

~ When asked by the arraignment judge, “Why did you shoot the man 6 times? ~

The woman replied under oath, “Because, When

I pulled the trigger the 7th time, It only went click.” ~

The woman was acquitted of all charges. She was back at work at the cafe the next day!

  Don’t mess with a Texas woman, unless they invite you in to play that is. In this
  case i commend her for her shooting skill and not missing the target. Crime in
  Houston and the surrounding areas is on the increase. We have had many
  drug cartell members identifyied in the local area and also drug farms set up with
  criminal aliens smuggled over the border to run them. (More of the jobs that
  Americans won’t do according to omarxist.) Many of the women I know in the
  area carry weapon and are very good shots with them. The majority of them carry
  either a .32, .38/357 or a 9mm. One lady I know carries a .22 magnum derringer
  and at 10 yards is an excellent shot.

  Glad to hear that,usually only cops can shoot someone running away! For some strange reason a person is only no longer a danger when running away from a citizen they have robbed, but when running from a police officer they are for sure always a danger! I wonder why that is?????

Retired Marine and former Pan Am/Delta Pilot John Lovell is Top Gun at Subway sandwich shop..!

Plantation, Florida: Last week police were called to investigate an attempted armed robbery: The 71-year-old retired Marine who opened fire on two robbers at a Plantation, Florida, Subway shop late Wednesday, killing one and critically wounding the other, is described as John Lovell, a former helicopter pilot for two presidents. He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, and he works out every day. Mr.. Lovell was a man of action Wednesday night.

According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the Subway at 1949 N. Pine Rd. just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner, Mr. Lovell, who was finishing his meal. After robbing the cashier, the two men attempted to shove Mr. Lovell into a bathroom and rob him as well. They got his money, but then Mr. Lovell pulled his handgun and opened fire. He shot one of the thieves in the head and chest and the other in the head.

When police arrived, they found one of the men in the shop, K-9 Units found the other in the bushes of a nearby business. They also found cash strewn around the front of the sandwich shop according to Detective Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department..

Both men were taken to the Broward General Medical Center, where one, Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale died. The other, 21-year-old Frederick Gadson of Fort Lauderdale is in critical but stable condition.

Mr. Lovell was a pilot in the Marine Corps, flying former Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He later worked as a pilot for Pan Am and Delta Airlines.

He is not expected to be charged authorities said. ”He was in fear for his life,” Detective Rettig said, “These criminals ought to realize that most men in their 70′s have military backgrounds and aren’t intimidated by idiots.”

Something tells me this old Marine wasn’t ‘in fear for his life’, even though his life was definitely at risk. The only thing he could be charged with is participating in an unfair fight. One 71- year young Marine against two punks. Two head shots and one center body mass shot.

Outstanding shooting! That’ll teach them not to get between a Marine and his meal.

Florida law allows eligible citizens to carry a concealed weapon. Don’t you just love a story with a happy ending?

      The only thing I do different is while I hold them with the 12 gauge, I will let them decide whether I take them out with the 12 gauge, the 30-30, the 30-06, the .40 cal, or the 22 automatic. I consider that a fair fight. I have the guns and they get a choice of which one I use.

  Great story. But this old Marine was…an old Marine. He had good reflexes and good judgment, as well as combat training. I’m not sure you could say that for all the people walking around carrying concealed. Just because one is eligible to carry a firearm does not mean that one can be completely trusted to walk around safely with it in public.

      Finally, the idea that Obama wants to take away all our guns is a complete canard. Really and truly. He hasn’t said anything about gun control up until the Aurora shooting. When he did say something, he was talking only about tightening regulations for gun ownership by convicted criminals and the mentally ill. And that doesn’t necessarily mean new gun control legislation. There already is a federal law on the books requiring states to provide the names of severely mentally ill people who should be prevented from purchasing guns; however, most states either won’t or, more likely, can’t comply with it because the funding promised to help them share data more effectively hasn’t materialized, or privacy laws are preventing them from doing so.
      
      I’m not sure what to think about his call for a ban on assault weapons. While I’m not sure why anyone really NEEDS an AK-47 for protection, it’s really hard to determine whether the ban actually had much of an impact on crime–and both sides tend to skew their evidence in their own favor.
      
      The argument that Second Amendment limitations are a slippery slope is fallacious. We can place reasonable restrictions on something and draw a line right there. I know there are lots of liberals who think a gun will go off if they so much as look at it and want to ban all guns as a result, but really, that’s never going to happen. In fact, the last time an Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Bill was put forth in the House, it was actually sponsored by five moderate Republicans from urban areas–and voted down by a Democratic-controlled Congress. Go figure.

There are also laws against people sneaking across our borders, going on welfare, stealing stuff, and shooting people. There are also laws against people running for office who are not qualified. There are also laws against “assault weapons” which is not AR-15s or AK47s by the way. If someone is attempting to break into your house to rape or kill you and steal all your stuff, and the police are 30 minutes away, you would be delighted to have an AR-15 under your arm.

First off: To get a concealed permit you have to take a gun shooting course and pass a criminal background. Hello Raymond from a 101st Airborne 22nd Combat (retired) crusty old fart! When my state got the CCW (Concealed Carry Weapons) law into effect, I was one of the first 10 citizens of this county to get one and I have had one for well over 10 years now…and I have only had to pull my gun once.

I was in the parking lot of a grocery store about 3am (momma wanted some sticky buns for breakfast and forgot to get them, and if momma isnt happy, NOBODY is happy) and I was putting the stuff in my car when I heard a loud argument. I turned and recognized a neighbor lady arguing with her boyfriend. I went over and asked if I could offer some assistance. Naturally this punk looked this special forces soldier over and sneered “Go away grandpa before you get hurt” My response back to him was “You seem to be bothering my neighbor so maybe you should go away before YOU get hurt as dont let the fact that I am wearing two knee braces and walking with a cane allow your mouth to write a check that your ass cant cash.” he replied “Oh yea, maybe I should take that cane away from you and beat you with it.” BAD move, as he should have been paying attention to the other hand. I whipped out my pistol and went across his head a few times (those 9mm Baby Desert Eagles are one tough gun..lol) and dropped him where he stood. I then told him that if I EVER saw him bothering ANYONE ever again like this or any other way, I would personally book him a meeting with St Peter. His eyes were wide and you could see the fear in them and he then wet himself and got up and ran away. The next morning this neighbor brought over a large batch of home made sticky buns and she seem a lot happier since. Her EX was VERY lucky as my state had just enacted the Castle Doctrine Law allowing me to use deadly force to protect myself or my neighbor or our property. When he made the threat to me then I was safe. And he cannot sue nor his family nor anyone else. I saw him the other day as I was coming out of the bookstore and he looked up, turned pale and went the other way. Guess he learned his lesson? And that is, dont make an ass of yourself or threaten people as in this state you dont know who is armed and who isnt.
