No Peace Among Wolves: Holy Land Conflict

At times, complicated issues are most clearly understood in simple terms. Speaking before the Knesset in 2006, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu captured, in two brief sentences, that which lies at the heart of the ongoing, centuries-old Arab-Israeli conflict: “The truth is that if Israel were to put down its arms, there would be no more Israel. If the Arabs were to put down their arms, there would be no more war.”

Indeed, how does one peacefully co-exist with those whose singular obsession is that one should not exist at all? Can a Jewish people who simply wish to live in peace ever do so while surrounded by those who view them as, in the words of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, “a cancerous tumor” – “the most detested people in all humanity” whose very nation must be “wiped out from the map?”

But according to the burgeoning worldwide Islamic caliphate, it’s not just Israel, the “Little Satan,” that must face inhalation. So too must America, the “Big Satan,” be destroyed: “And God willing, with the force of God behind it,” Ahmadinejad once promised, “we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism.”

A nuclear-armed Iran is perhaps months away. It is folly most grave to believe that this Islamic regime – a regime which holds that there can be no greater honor than to destroy both Israel and America via nuclear suicide bombings – won’t deploy such weaponry at the earliest possible opportunity.

Yet today’s anti-Semitic, axis-of-the-willfully-blind – the liberal intelligentsia, rank-and-file “progressives” and that elusive creature, the “moderate Muslim” – inexplicably, if not unwittingly, rally behind the principal Islamic cause: Death to the infidels (Quran 9.5).

“Free occupied Palestine!” they drone, while either disregarding the long history of deadly Arab aggression in the region, or laboring under obtuse ignorance of it.

By “occupied Palestine,” of course, Arabs and Arab sympathizers reference that portion of Israel achieved as spoils of her defensive “Six Day War.” In June of 1967, the tiny Jewish nation devastated the armies of neighboring Syria, Jordan and Egypt as the warring nations characteristically made ready to “wipe Israel from the map.”

By seizing the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the Old City of Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and the West Bank of the Jordan River, Israel had gained a defensive stronghold in the region crucial to her very survival. Still, many of these territories remained very much occupied – and do to this day – by thousands of Arabs who now fall under Israeli governance.

Therein lies the struggle.

So, in truth, Israel no more occupies this fictional “Palestine” than do Californians “occupy” Sacramento.

Yet, imagine the Mexican government launching dozens of rockets each day, for years, into Los Angeles neighborhoods, intentionally targeting innocent American citizens.

Or visualize a Mexican suicide bomber with full government authority strolling into a crowded Toys “R” Us in suburban Bakersfield, ripping himself and dozens of women and children to shreds.

Picture, if you will, a quiet, unassuming woman cleverly disguised as an expectant mother boarding a San Francisco trolley and blowing it up along with scores of innocent passengers.

Do you not think the international community would forcefully condemn such horrific acts of terror?

Do you not think America would respond with that level of force necessary to eliminate the threat?

Would she not have an absolute right – indeed an absolute duty to do so?

Of course she would.

Yet, despite a recent fragile cease-fire which Hamas violated within hours, this is exactly what peace-loving Israelis face each day. This is their reality.

Hamas and the Palestinian Authority – with Iran’s full economic and military backing – have been attacking innocent Israeli citizens in this very fashion for years, recently ramping up such attacks. The only wonder is that Israel has shown such remarkable restraint in her response.

But respond she has.

“Iran has turned Gaza into an outpost of their nation,” Michael Oren, Israeli ambassador to the U.S. recently told a group of Christian leaders in a special briefing convened by Liberty Counsel. “More than 5.5 million of our citizens are now under threat of missile attack, and over 1,300 missiles have been fired at us since we took action against Hamas.”

To be sure, no reasonable, peace-loving person should have any sympathy whatsoever for the Iranian government, Hamas or the Palestinian Authority – all guilty of serial war crimes.

Indeed, we all mourn the tragic loss of innocent Arab life in Gaza and anywhere else it occurs. So do the Israeli people. So does the Israeli government.

That’s what separates the good from the evil.

Yet it is the Arab authorities who bathe in the blood of innocents. Responsibility for these deaths rests solely at the feet of those wicked men who intentionally shield themselves behind their own women and children – who deliberately place military launch sites and terrorist headquarters next to mosques, homes, playgrounds and the like.

They attack innocent Israelis and then shamelessly cower behind these human shields – their own people – as their intended victims answer back with pinpoint strikes against terrorists and military personnel.

It is purposeful. It is propaganda. And it works.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir once said: “Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us.”

But alas, their hate burns hot.

Like wild dogs, the Arab nations remain willing to eat their own young if it serves their evil ends.
And like wild dogs they encircle Israel, the Mountain Gazelle, intending to devour her.

And so she fights for her life.

Netanyahu screwed up w/the ‘peace’ accord. He’s going to regret that, big time!

Good article. War against each other is all these people have ever known and is founded largely in the ridiculous Jewish folklore fable that they are God’s chosen race of people and the equally ridiculous Islamic fable of Mohammed. These two superstitious religious beliefs along with Christianity have fostered more wars and bloodshed than any other cause in all of mankind’s history. Nothing seems to stir up passion in a person like a controversy over who God is really in favor of and how he has revealed himself and his will be it in the Bible or the Quran. What an insult to God to suppose that he would be so unjust as to reveal himself only to those that read a particular book. God has revealed himself and his benevolence in his creation and the unchangeable laws of nature that he put in place for ALL mankind to see and understand.

God gave us reason, not religion.

It’s not that God favors Israel more than anyone else but he made permanent promises to them. He promised Abraham and his descendants that who ever blesses Abraham will be blessed and who ever curses Abraham will be cursed. God also promised that Jerusalem belong to Israel and who ever try to take that away will face God’s wrath. It is in the bible. This is why born-again, bible-reading Christians side with Israel. God’s promises gives me the impression that Israel is the apple of God’s eyes and that is why it is the most hated in the world. There are other conflicts much bigger going on in other parts of the world so why is the tiny land of Israel the main focus of the world? Could Satan have something to do with it? Christians think so.

Sandra – Thank you for your response. I do know and understand what the Bible says about all this. I once believed it, studied it in seminary and taught it in a very fundamental, evangelical Christian church. But, I am now an apostate to Christianity. I now consider the Bible as nothing more than a hodgepodge collection of Jewish folklore, superstition, myth and fable but most certainly not the revealed or inspired “Word of God”. I stand by my premise that a truly just and righteous God does not play favorites or grant land to any one particular people and I hold that anyone that believes he does insults his true character. There are many wonderful truths in the Bible that can be of benefit to mankind but there are also many things that are only the vivid creations of very superstitious minds.

I am now a Deist and quite remarkably the essence of Deism is found in Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse”. He is there for all to see and understand Sandra, not just those that read a certain book, Bible, Talmud, Quran, Book of Mormon, etc. God gave us reason, not religion.

Evil people don’t realize that you’re evil. Where does an ENLIGHTENED DEIST, get your brilliance¿?

George Washington said»»You cannot rightly govern a nation without GOD AND THE BIBLE.
In 1894, the NY Times declared regarding atheism and suicide: “Dr. Martin urged that a great cause of suicide was atheism. It was, he said, a remarkable fact that where atheism prevailed most, there suicides were most numerous. In Paris, a recent census showed one suicide to every 2,700 of the population. AFTER THE PUBLICATION OF PAINE’S “Age of Reason” SUICIDES INCREASED.

You don’t believe in God so why do he say HE gave us reason? In your case you have a carnal mind and hence darkened understanding. Only fools say there is no God.

      • dHb

Why G W how terribly presumptuous of you and how very unreasonable you are. Bad Christian! Bad Christian!

I am a Deist G W and therefore I do very much believe in God but I also understand your rabid fundamentalist,Bible based mind that if it is not the God YOU believe in then it is not a belief in God. My mind is far from carnal my friend, I am very spiritual.

Just askin. What id ask Mr.Barber and others. How would you feel if suddenly thousands of Mexicans came in took your land told you to shut up and take it they were here long ago first would you take it? Would you stand by and have everything taken from you? When you allow yourself your loved ones to be herded into a small controled monitored area? Yeah i didnt think so.Theres two sides to this and its not just the palestinians fault or in the wrong. So is Israel. Now i understand its more complex than that but im tired of seeing people blindly support Israel when, its obvious they are to blame as well for this mess.
