  An AR-15 is not an assault weapon. That is a term made up by the anti-gun crowd. It is also not a machine gun. A machine gun is like a tommy gun, pull and hold the trigger and it will continue shooting until it runs out of bullets or you let go of the trigger. The AR-15 fires one bullet each time you pull and release the trigger, meaning semi-automatic. just like a hunter’s shotgun, or a 45 pistol, or a 22 rifle.
  
  On your keyboard, press a key, then release it, then press it again. you will have 2 letters on the screen. That’s semi-automatic. Now press a key and hold it down for 5 seconds and the letter will keep typing. That’s automatic.

    Some automatic weapons are permitted for specially licensed individuals. Not commonly available because of the high cost and extreme government intervention involved in their acquisition. However, the drug cartels have been dragging them across the border, so if you run into a drug dealer or illicit gun dealer, they might have some fully automatic weapons. Of course, the only automatic weapons EVER used in a crime in the US are illegal and in the hands of criminals, not law abiding citizens like us!

I a man of small stature. Physically not much bigger than my wife.
The AR-15 is light weight and perfectly dimensioned for a smaller person, such as most women. The pistol grip is perfect for small hands and short arms. It allows better control and produces reduced felt recoil. It really is a safety feature.
I have often fired a Remington 700, a M-1A, and a horde of AR’s (I’m a Vet). By far and away the easiest to handle SAFELY is a rifle of the AR-series.
I’ll bet all the “experts” are 5’10 and 180 pounds. And, in a fight, they would choose an AR-series rifle to protect their lives (just like the police do). As they say “Good for me but not for thee.” B. S.

McCarthy has no clue of what she is talking about.What could be easier for a woman?Perhaps a bolt action rifle where you load 5 rounds on a stripper clip?Loading 5 rounds in a lever type rifle?Maybe a black powder rifle?An AR-15is lighter.Put in the magazine,pull back the bolt , point and shoot.Ten,twenty,thirtry rounds or more with the squeeze of the trigger.I, however,am net a fan of the AR.It nothing more than a high powered 22 rifle.It is not the “killing machine”that people claim it to be.

  Can’t agree with you at all on your comparison od the AR to a 22 rifle. Yes, the .223 is only slightly larger in diameter than the 22. However, the bullet portion of the 223 is generally 2 to 3 times the weight of the 22 and it has a much higher muzzle velocity. The fact that it can shoot accurately at a greater range and can penetrate far better than the 22 makes it an effective moderate range weapon. But, let’s not quibble over these things. I happen to enjoy plinking with my AR-15. If I have serious shooting that requires a rifle I will pull out my Remington 30-06 or the .308. Both are very effective killing guns as they carry a very high shock value. I have used many weapons including the 50 Cal machine gun, M-60, AK-47, M-4, M16 (with and without the m-203 grenade launcher), AR-15 as well as many non-military rifles and handguns. For fun and ease of use, I would recommend the AR platform over all others. The cohice of weapon should always be dependent upon the intended target. For home defense, I would choose my 12 gauge with 7-9 pellet loads, then my AR as a backup. Of course my handguns are always loaded and ready in the safe.

McCarthy …… “they will tell you that the AR is not the gun to use – a rifle is more accurate ….” —– so, let me understand this ….. a “rifle” is more accurate than an AR …. which is a RIFLE.
McCarthy …. a “rifle” is easier for a “woman” to use than an AR platform weapon. Really? The AR platform was developed with an “inline recoil” to make the weapon easier to use – less “perceived” recoil, and the pistol grip improves the handling capabilities.

Anyone that has handle and shot the simply designed copies of the ARmalite rifle developed by Stoner in the 1950′s will tell you there is very little recoil. Recoil and the fear of same has lead many hunters and target punchers to develop some very bad habits, beginning with FLINCHING, which normally results in off target or poorly placed hits on game animals negating the 1-shot=1 kill ideology of an ethical hunter.

People of all sizes, ages, descriptions and physical limitations can easily “charge” an AR/M4 and shoot it all day with proper-fitting hearing and appropriate eye ware protection.

Mrs.Mayor is yet again aiding and abetting the ANTI crowd with incorrect information. If she hadn’t…do you think Piers and his producers would have used the interview footage and sound bite?

People leave countries like England because they get fed up with the confiscatory taxes and overly controlling government. Then they come here and think that the taxes are too low, and the government doesn’t control enough of our lives. This is happening now in New Hampshire, a traditionally conservative state. People from socialist Massachusetts are escaping the high taxes and government regulation of that state by moving to NH where they promptly voted in droves for Democrats, who promise higher taxes and more regulations.

Texas is trying to entice people from California to move there, but they had better reconsider all those socialists moving in, they vote, early and often as Democrats.

Again, Piers Morgan has someone on his show to say exactly what he thinks is a good argument from his own perspective. Unfortunately, whomever these “professionals” are this woman eludes to, more than likely would not recommend a rifle as the best line of defense, especially in close quarters. If a woman is alone, has someone breaking into her home to do harm to her, or to burglarize it – and she has access to a weapon – she would be far better off with a short-barreled shotgun than an AR-15 or another rifle of regular size. The considerations are: Darkness, (generally) ease of handling, (getting it out of a closet, or it’s hiding place) getting a bullet in the barrel, (cycling the action) and aiming at the perpetrator. As another poster said, AR’s are shorter, easier to manage for a woman of small stature – so are police-type shotguns. While there are lots of different actions, pump shotguns are among the easiest to cycle and use, and some are even semi-auto. (A bolt, or lever-action rifle, even a carbine-size would be harder to use, although AR’s are semi-auto) In darkness, (generally) ‘close’ is good enough for a carbine-length shotgun, but you would have to aim much better with a rifle, because of the size of the projectile. Lastly, damage done by a shotgun at close range is pretty radical, even if the shot placement isn’t the best. If you hit a burglar in the arm or leg with a rifle, unless you hit bone, chances are he will get away into the night. In most cases, a shotgun will do enough damage, even if the aim isn’t good, to render that person immobile. I doubt seriously that “professionals” would recommend a rifle over a carbine-sized, police-style shotgun.

You also neglected to point out that shotguns actually hit a lot more than what you aim for. As in a crowd, you could hit 4 or5 people with ONE shot. And you ignored the possibility that you need more than 4 or 5 shells at a time.
  ( A state trooper was in a gun fight with perps on the side of the road. He had the OLD revolver and the perps counted him down. About the time they were rushing him to finish him off, a citizen who was packing came up behind him and started raining on their parade. It saved the troopers life.)

I wish I could say these people are a freaking joke, but they’ve managed to brainwash enough people to believe that AR stands for Assault Rifle and that it’s like a machine gun. It’s ARMALITE Rifle and it has been around since the late 1950′s. It’s not a machine gun, it’s ONE bullet for every time you pull the trigger. How fast it shoots depends on how fast you are. If they aren’t accurate, then WHY is there a scope attached?

This woman is a blooming idiot! My wife loves our AR-15. Being od small stature, she especially like the adjustable stock which allows her to set the reach more comfortably to her size. I like it because I have long arms and it is a best fit for me at full extent.
