This is a clip of my brown bear hunt near Prince William Sound, Alaska. My guide was Blake Trangemoe. My outfitter was my good friend, Wayne Woods of Woods Outfitting. I used a Mauser ’98 .375H&H Magnum built by Sterling Davenport. My load was a 300gr. Barnes Triple Shock X-bullet. Enjoy.

If these massive bears were not allowed to be hunted would cause the caribou and moose population to become extinct. They love to eat the baby calves. That doesn’t sound very nice to me Todd. If they were not allowed to be culled eventually people would be next when they didn’t have enough food. Would that be ok with you Todd.

  continent.Primarily because it wouldn’t happen. Now for your other
  point, which actually has some validity yes if the population gets too
  big you do have to act. Though I don’t understand how people who hunt
  think this is an impressive photo. “Yay you shot an animal from a long
  distance with a high powered projectile weapon”……..well its not
  exactly brave is it or difficult for that matter because everyone seems to be doing it. Maybe if he did with a bow or a spear something it could turn a few heads.

  Second, if you don’t want to hunt, that is Your Right, don’t hunt – but, don’t you dare tell anyone else what they may, or may not, do – unless they are doing harm to you, personally.
  
  Personally, I don’t want to prostitute myself, and I don’t …. however, if you want to prostitution yourself, go for it. I don’t want to do drugs, so I don’t …. however, if you want to, go for it … as long as you don’t do harm to me by your actions.

    To each his own. Mine happens to be rescuing those animals that people throw away. I am part Indian and I am a conservationist and animal lover. If one has no food and the killing is for food or clothing I have no problem with that. On the other hand to kill for a trophy, I have a major problem with that.

How about some stats on this massive brown bear ?

For those who are complaining, hunting and fishing is the only sustainable economy in Alaska. The rest of the Alaskan economy is oil and mining. The fishing and hunting is managed to maintain a resource. Natural death for brown bears is miserable. With hunting, they die quickly and allow other bears to grow to trophy size.

Did you winers know that these trophy bears kill the young bears so they can breed the sow sooner? The mother bear will not come into heat until her little ones are weaned. The bruins kill and even eat the cubs to have access to the sow.

It is the cycle of life. Hakuna Matata !

Man has dominion over all the animals , if they aren’t kept in check they would overpopulate their terrain and decimate their food supply causing massive die offs from agonizing diseases and starvation . decimation of their natural food supply would also make us their new prey . On the other hand I am really teed off at Doug Giles for experiencing MY dream hunt , which I always wanted but never got a chance to make . An envious congratulations to you DOUG . I am a Vietnam vet with two purple hearts but we never had these chances todays veterans are getting , and at 70 years of age it is way too late for me . Again , congratulations .

When we kill for trophies, all too often the animal taken is the bearer of superior genetics for that species.

Killing for trophies (I’m not talking here about definite scenarios in which a species overpopulation is casing verifiable harm to an ecosystem.) with technologically improved firearms and optics that permit one to kill at ranges well beyond the close distance of human scale our ancestors had to accomplish, does not even require the full skills and discipline they had.

It’s like having a vasly superior weapon of destruction against an unarmed or vastly underarmed opponent (, for example, calling a computer geek in a room in Las Vegas a ‘warrior’ because s/he clicks on a screen and blasts away someone half a world away through controlled weapons on a drone).
