In 2012, the founder of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, had to leave the congregation he founded in 1999 due to the controversy over his book “Love Wins.” The book also inspired other prominent Christian authors, such as Francis Chan and Mark Galli, to dispute Bell’s theological underpinnings in books of their own. This week he announced that he would be touring and releasing a new book called What We Talk About When We Talk About God on March 12. The former pastor that once delivered sermons with “the same cool, frictionless appeal as an Apple product launch” will most likely find himself under controversy with this new book once again.
In his last book Love Wins Bell tackles the existence of hell and the exclusive claims of Christianity, but this next book is said to “challenge everything you think you know about God.” After his departure from Mars Hill last year Bell and his wife moved to Southern California.
