Lifetime has a new “reality show” titled, “Preacher’s Daughters.” Essentially its three preachers, with three daughters, who whine about their dads being the “bad guy” simply because they care and have rules. ClashDaily.com’s CEO, Doug Giles, jackhammers the daughter’s narcissistic bents and lauds the dads who care. Giles is the author of the best-seller, Raising Righteous and Rowdy Girls available here.

        You can live an honorable, moral life without worrying about which rule to follow or not from the bible. Are the 10 commandments good rules? Sure they are. There’s lots of good lessons in that book. There are many many many more dumb and outdated rules in it too. The problem with following it is you can’t reallycan’t tell which to follow and which to not. And I won’t act like a lemming and follow what some asshat claims are the right rules. Look at the comments on this blog by people who claim to know what the bible says. Their reading comprehension is like that of a 1st grader. They certainly don’t represent Christians well.

Calling them ‘slap stick’ isn’t proper, they are just plain ignorant and the so-called sense of humor is non existant! I do NOT watch any black sitcom, etc. at all – they insult my intelligence. You can’t even call them a satire! If you think this one is dumb try the one about bra’s and boobs! Aren’t there any intelligent producers/writers out there anymore that this is the only thing they can come up with that is silly, infantile, ridiculous, no plots and story line, and not even good enuf for children? Cable TV should be called Reality TV period…more junk crap now then ever before..i think its time we somehow force cable companies to go ala carte…this way we pay for what we want not for this garbage like Honey Boo Boo as one example. Rates go up, commercials increase quality programming is gone so Black or White its garbage..

  They did a pilot about an Islamic Cleric’s family, but when the daughter was discovered to have acted inappropriately, the father beheaded her to preserve the family’s honor, and the producers thought it wouldn’t be good to show Islam as it really is! LOL! ~ of course I am joking, but that essentially is the reason you’ll NEVER see a truthful “Reality” show about a ‘wild’ daughter of an Islamic clergy member!

  Since the writer’s are lost, this is humor to them. As a Christian, I can pretty much tell what the program producer’s believe. Even in a crowd, watch who laughs at, or enjoys watching, these shows and their beliefs are obvious…
  
  Most people are curious so they might watch for a moment, but a true Christian will use discernment to steer away from garbage. This holds true when watching people buy tickets at the cinema, too.

Doug is right for the most part… But pastors are people and some of them do have messed up lives. The objective of this show is clear – pick the most screwed up minister’s families willing to air their dirty laundry on tv, and essentially throw mud on fundamental Christianity! Are there pastoral families that deal with such issues, I am sure there, they are people after all. Doug will agree, being a pastor and a member of the pastor’s family is really tough, even more so than that of a politician’s family. It takes folks truly called to the ministry to take on the position of Pastor, but family members don’t really have a choice until able to get out on their own, at which point they are responsible for their own actions… no reflection on their Pastoral parent(s). All any parents can do is offer love and support to their children growing up, but there comes a time when those children are responsible for their own decisions and fate. Most will respond positively to a loving family environment, but don’t under-estimate the power of peers that don’t understand the added pressures these children are under to be “Good kids”, and everyone is watching and waiting for them to slip up, so they can blast them. NO ONE THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN IS PERFECT, INCLUDING PASTORS AND THEIR FAMILIES! That said, most pastor’s family are not as messed up as the ones they have on this “Reality” show. For everyone one worldly pastor’s daughter, there will be half a dozen who are well-grounded and respectable.

  If a man cannot control his household/manage his family Scripture (as per St. Paul to Timothy) makes it clear he should not be leading God’s flock. Yes, we pastors are people and we sin and our families mess up like other families, but we are to stand as a model to be emulated by the people. Our light is to shine brighter than those whom we serve and our example is to always bring honor to the Bride of Christ and her Lord. Yes, it is tough, but that is why the ministry is NOT for everyone (again as per St. Paul to Timothy and Titus)..

  I’ve grown up in church, am a minister, and know PK’s…They are either totally on fire for the Lord or the worst hellions on this side. I watched last night and actually was pleased to see the 16 year old girl believe the values her mom instilled in her (only to find out her 30 year old married sister WASN’T a virgin when she married and devastated her sister’s image). The sad thing was the daughter of the Pentecostal preacher who wants to be a “porn star” and the other girl shown in the video who didn’t know which guy was the father of her kid! But I agree, they wouldn’t dare do that with any other faith…but why are we surprised?!? It’s HOLLYWOOD!!

The Cosby Show was a VERY GOOD sitcom that portrayed a black family and the wonderful thing about it was that Bill Cosby’s character (as the father) was not made to look like a BUFFOON. As far as humor, I think that a person’s sense of humor is greatly influenced by your immediate culture as well as life experience. . .

I remember a long time ago when there was a weekend movie program called “Beans and Cornbread” (?) hosted by Paul and Anabelle (?); initially, I thought the humor was NONEXISTENT but then I gained an appreciation for the DRYNESS of it and really began to love it! I didn’t grow up around people with DRY humor so at first I could not appreciate that type of humor. My husband and I still laugh about that show today and we miss it.

If you truly want to see some solid BLACK sitcoms, give these a try – the “Cosby Show”, “Cosby”, and “Family Matters”.

I am a pastor with two daughters and a son sandwiched in between (18, 16, & 13). I echo Pr. Giles’ line: “Not in my household.” I have three children of whom I can be very proud. They fight against the same worldly temptations as other kids but they have been raised to fight against them the same way our Lord did in the wilderness: The very WORD of God! They have been given the tools to live a life “worthy of the calling they have received.” TBTG they are young women of virtue and a young man of honor!

BTW – You should see the grin on my 13 yo daughter’s face when she unloads a 30 round magazine on daddy’s AR or the pride my son takes in smacking a gong my old eyes can’t even see with the .308!

I watched Preacher’s Daughters a couple times. It seems as if some of the preachers come off thinking that the daughters are chattel property, or are just there for them to bully into submission with constant embarrassment. I think most would be happier if it was still public policy to allow parent to chain unruly kids to the wall in their basement until it was time to let them out to attend their parents funeral.
