Nixon and Obama: Impeachment for IRS Scandal?

Only a House Select Committee can combine resources and investigators into who is involved, what was covered up and, as Speaker Boehner said, who should go to jail.

After all, this was not just a break-in of a political office, but was a breakdown of the administration of law and an invasion of the rights of America citizens who care deeply about this nation. The crime they committed, according to the IRS’ offensive criminal conduct, was being a member of Tea Party organizations or other conservative groups.

But the scandal does not stop with the actual action committed by any of a possible number of IRS officials, including Lois Lerner, then head of the IRS division that targeted the Tea Party organizations. The companion to this scandal is the cover up and whether or not all of the denials before congress by Lerner and her immediate bosses in the IRS and Treasury did so to throw the election to Obama.

The Articles of Impeachment that were leveled against President Nixon relating to obstruction of justice and abuse of power go to the very heart of this current administration that make it ripe for a Joint Committee, Special Prosecutor and quite possibly Impeachment Hearings.

The president will be well served to secure counsel that will help him navigate through the murky turbulent waters of mounting congressional hearings concerning this current trifecta of IRS targeting, DOJ media targeting and Benghazi cover up investigations. Obama can no longer dodge or feign ignorance, because that is not a defense. Just ask Hillary Clinton, who worked on the Watergate Judiciary Committee, which came up with Impeachment Article 2:4 which states in part:

“He has failed to take care that the laws were faithfully executed by failing to act when he knew or had reason to know that his close subordinates endeavoured to impede and frustrate lawful inquiries by duly constituted executive, judicial and legislative entities.”

The IRS Tea Party scandal is an abridgment of justice and fortunately even the Democrats in Congress are beginning to show outrage, because failure to act can mean a failure to be re-elected in 2014.
