Unbelievable Shamelessness: The Left and Kermit Gosnell
As hard as it’s been, I’ve been following the case of Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell, who doesn’t deserve the title of “Dr.” since he did everything but “do no harm”, ran an abortion clinic called the Women’s Medical Society, in Philadelphia. Despite the efforts of the MSM to black out this “local issue”, conservative writers brought it to the forefront. Yesterday, Gosnell was convicted of 237 of the 263 counts for which he was being tried. He was convicted of three counts of first degree murder for three infants born alive who were then murdered, involuntary manslaughter for the overdose death of a 41 year old woman, one count of infanticide, two counts of conspiracy, 21 of 24 counts of abortion of an unborn child of 24 weeks or more and 208 of 227 counts of violation of informed consent of an abortion. He faces the death penalty.
The verdict surprised me because I was sure that the jury would fall for the defense of “well, they were going to be aborted anyway, or they were really just dead but ‘twitching’ so no harm no foul.” In no uncertain terms, the jury disagreed with that defense and found that they were born, breathed, struggled to live and were viciously murdered by having sharp scissors plunged into their little necks so their spinal cords could be cut. Heartbreaking.
The reaction of the left and pro-abortion forces did not surprise me. Here’s some tweets that quickly were put on Twitter by various abortion supporters. First, @TheDemocrats: “Retweet if you’re happy that pregnancy will no longer be a pre-existing condition. #Obamacare” Dead infants = celebrating
Obamacare? Words fail.
Next, Sally Kohn, a Progressive Pundit on Fox News: “How do we prevent future criminal atrocities like #Gosnell? Keep abortion safe, legal & affordable for ALL women EVERYWHERE!” How about we prevent them by enforcing existing laws requiring clinic inspections and no abortions at or past 24 weeks? Fact: Gosnell’s clinic hadn’t been inspected in 16 years!!
More fun! Planned Parenthood, those purveyors of death, had to weigh in: “A just verdict. The jury has rightly convicted #Gosnell for his appalling crimes, ensuring no woman is victimized by him ever again.”
No born women. You unborn women, well, all bets are off for you, even if you are at 23.5 weeks gestation, which means you could live outside the womb.
The worst of the bunch, NARAL had this to tweet: “BREAKING: Kermit #Gosnell found guilty. He’ll pay for his crimes. Now let’s make sure abortion is safe.”
Cute little factoid for you, NARAL, abortion isn’t safe … ever. It’s a surgical procedure that scars, physically and emotionally one victim, can cause death of the mother in even the safest of clinics or hospitals, and extinguishes the life of the most vulnerable of the two. Safe? Hardly.
They linked to their formal statement which said, in part, that while they “hope that the lessons of the trial do not fade with the verdict..” they fear that “Anti-choice politicians” will not stop “their unrelenting efforts to deny women access to safe and legal abortion care” and that will “only drive more women to back-alley butchers like Kermit Gosnell.” Please explain how a prominently placed abortion clinic on a major street in Philadelphia is “back alley”?
They went on to say that more funding is needed for low-income women. So, taxpayer, fork it over! Stop “the politicization of women’s medical care and leave these decisions where they belong — between a woman and her family and her doctor” or “women will never be safe.” Because the women who went to see Gosnell were so safe, as were their born alive infants. Oh, wait…
