Not Listening, Spouting Off, Looking Foolish

Then there is the recent legislation passed in Texas and being voted on in North Carolina. Without even reading what the bills say, most are reactively, and foolishly, in attack mode. The legislation being put forth in several states was put forth in reaction to the Gosnell trial, to protect women, and yes, the unborn, from those horrors. I’ve done some research, and while I don’t like that it still protects abortion, it does some really good things for women. Does it restrict abortion at 20 weeks? Absolutely, and that’s where the knee-jerk reaction comes in. Pro-aborts don’t want any restriction, oversight or interference, even if women die.

I tried asking a pro-abort why they would want to put themselves in a situation where a surgery was being performed by a doctor who didn’t have admitting privileges at a hospital. Abortion is a surgery, plain and simple. Why would you put yourself in a situation that could go bad easily, and then have no hospital back up? It’s not logical. But the response was “MY BODY!” or “Poor women”! Well, doesn’t that rule mean it protects all women with safe medical back up? There was no listening, so therefore total foolishness.

We are all human, and there are always issues that make us act foolishly by not listening. Remember, though, that when we don’t listen, no one learns. I would never say that I always listen first, as I know there are areas where I refuse to listen. But generally, I’d rather hear what you have to say and consider it before opening my mouth. In the end even if no one changes their mind, at least there was an open dialogue.

So before you spout off, open your ears.
