Enemy at the Gate: The Playbook of the Powers and Principalities
The second prong of the Enemy’s attack seems to be linguistic in nature. He has realized that if he attacks a word or a concept, he can corrupt it in our minds and our societies and render it useless. For this tactic to succeed, he had to rob us of the ability to reason by logic. If logical coherence is no longer a requirement, then the most ludicrous statement will no longer be shunted from our marketplace of ideas and the absurd can become the accepted. This has been accomplished primarily under the tutelage of postmodern relativists, filling the teachers’ lounges of our high schools and universities. They undermined the concept of Truth (as they had previously undermined the concept of Good and Evil) and convinced their pupils that truth is what you make it.
Once our dialogue had been stripped of the prerequisite of logical coherence, nonsensical statements could be assimilated with ease. Today’s headlines are proof that this ship has come in. The American military is now commissioning atheist chaplains. Homosexual relationships are considered marriages. Moral failings of all types are seen as genetic and inevitable, while traditional morality is bigotry and judgmental hatred. Islam is the religion of peace, Christianity preaches hate. And on and on it goes in this seemingly endless juxtaposition.
By diluting the biblical institutions designed for our protection, while rendering our culture incapable of logical thought, Satan has seemingly hamstrung us at the edge of a cliff. It remains to be seen if America (and Western society in general) can avoid the imminent plunge, but one thing is certain. God and His word will remain and His children can rest assured in that promise, through the fiercest assault by an Enemy who knows the same. The beast is cornered and his time is limited, so his attack will soon reach a fever pitch. Let us remain in God’s word and look for opportunities to bring His light to share with the ones still enthralled with the darkness.
