Secularism and Islam — BFF?

What could account for this? Remember, Secularism and Islam are ideologically and profoundly opposed to each other in many ways, especially as touching topics like equality, democracy or freedom. I’ll offer a couple of possibilities. Feel free to add any I missed to the comment section.

1) The informal CAIR poll that 85% of Muslims voted for Obama offers one explanation. This may be a naked power grab in both camps … a marriage of convenience.

2) Liberal [half-] white guilt, in either of its forms: giving cultural preference (i) to groups declared “victims”, to right past wrongs — real or imagined; or (ii) giving preference to groups as a way of demonstrating your cosmopolitan sophistication.

3) Mutual Distaste for Traditional America: It is no secret that Traditional America and Democracy generally are fundamentally at odds with Islam. Watching this Administration’s approach to the Rule of Law and Bill of Rights together with the President’s promise to “fundamentally transform” America, makes one suspect that Obama is equally incompatible with Traditional America.

4) Shared opposition to Christianity: Both Islam and Secularism are in conflict with Christian principles. A Christian worldview would expect mutual hostility for God’s Kingdom to sometimes create unlikely alliances out of “natural enemies”. (See: Herod and Pilate. Luke 23:12)

If point four proves true, we’ll know two things.

First: Christianity has shown itself empirically testable and reliable — yet again. And…

Second: Christians will have to give up their soother and strap on a cup, because we’re gonna be in for a rough ride.
