Will Tebow Earn A Place With The Patriots?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Three days in advance of the New England Patriots‘ preseason finale, quarterback Tim Tebow says he doesn’t have a sense of what his fate with the team will be.

“I’m just focused on today,” he said Monday.

While not in the clear yet, Tebow did survive the team’s mandatory cut to 75 players Tuesday.

The 26-year-old added that this week, which includes a final cut down to 53 players by Saturday, is no different than any other for him.

“[It’s] just another game,” Tebow said. “You focus not even on that game, but preparing for that game, focus on today, the install and having a good practice.”

Tebow did not play at all during the team’s third preseason game but figures to earn extensive playing time Thursday night, as the Patriots often have relied heavily upon their reserve players in the fourth preseason game of seasons past.

And though his future with the team could be tied in part to how he performs in the game, Tebow said he is focused only on his preparation, not worrying about what he needs to show the coaching staff.

“I love playing; I love competing,” he said. “Everybody does in this locker room. We all love the game; that’s why we’re here. You just want to not focus on that, but focus on the preparation right now, and that’ll take care of itself.”

Though he’s shown signs of improvement since being signed by the team in June, Tebow has had up-and-down moments in preseason action, completing 9 of 24 passes and throwing one interception.

The team has kept three quarterbacks on the active roster in just one of the past four seasons, and with Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett entrenched above him, Tebow is seemingly fighting for one of the final spots on the roster.
