‘TREASON’ OR ‘FREE SPEECH?’ – Are These Anti-Syria Strike Pictures From U.S. Military Members Okay?

Strange photos appeared to pop up on a U.S. Marine website with an accompanying message to “Refuse your orders.” Initial article reports found at theBlaze and RedFlagNews asked the question if the photos and message were ‘Treason’ or ‘Free Speech?’

Later reports at IBTimes and WSJ (and others) revealed the Marine website was defaced by pro-Syrian government hackers.

WSJ reports the following:

A collection of pro-Syrian government hackers apparently defaced a Marine Corps recruitment website Monday.

The Syrian Electronic Army, which has hacked a series of websites, posted a letter on the Marines.com website arguing the Syrian government is “fighting a vile common enemy.”

“The Syrian army should be your ally not your enemy,” the letter read. “Refuse your orders and concentrate on the real reason every soldier joins their military, to defend their homeland. You’re more than welcome to fight alongside our army rather than against it.”

In a statement, the Marines said Monday that the site is now operating normally and they are monitoring the situation to prevent further attacks. The Marines said as part of the attack, visitors had been redirected away from the real website.

“The site itself was not hacked but that visitors were redirected,” the Marines said. […]
