Indonesia’s ‘Muslim Democracy’: The Poop Doesn’t Pile Higher
Most believe that the countries with the largest Muslim population in the world are in the Middle East. But that happens to be fallacious. The country with the largest Muslim population is: Indonesia.
Indonesia is an archipelago (island group or chain) comprising roughly 17,508 islands. It includes 34 provinces with over 238 million people, making it the world’s 4th most densely populated country. Muslims take up 88.2% of the population, approximately 202.9 million. The majority holds to the Sunni Muslim tradition chiefly of the Shafi’i madhhab. About one million are Shias, who are assembled around Jakarta (the capital of Indonesia). Islam first gained traction in Indonesia between the 12th and 15th centuries in coastal regions of Sumatra, northern Java, and Kalimantan.
As centuries have passed, Islam…in its most devout and violent form, has populated this island nation. And, Sharia Islamic Law is spreading to all provinces. As Sharia requires, it is being applied to non-Muslims as well. Some of the laws and behaviors of this ‘democracy’ include:
–All women to be veiled
— Women to be banned from straddling motorcycles
(The above restrictions are in accordance with Sharia Law, which prevents “showing a woman’s curves” which would seduce men to rape, for which the women are held culpable)
— Increased intolerance against the minority Christian population
— Java Beth Shalom, the last Synagogue in Indonesia and intended landmark, recently destroyed
One of the Islands that had a majority Christian population, battled the attacking majority Muslim population with the help of Australian troops in 1999. The Muslim majority, in their tolerant ways, was attempting the Christians’ annihilation. The former Portuguese colony of East Timor was freed to independence from the Islamic hordes of Indonesia, thanks to the Aussies.
But the ever-shrinking Christian population (now a mere 8.7%), and the almost extinct Jewish population (now numbering 20 people) … is a testimony AGAINST the ignorance spewed by Western leaders that Indonesia is a “Muslim Democracy”. There is nothing remotely democratic about this nation … nor is it moving in the direction of freedom and independence for its people. It never does, when Islam is in the vanguard.
So the next time you hear a Politico blather on about a “Muslim Democracy”… toss your pooper-scooper and grab a backhoe: You’ll need an industrial scoop for that pile!
