Keep These Vets From Their Memorial? Nice Try, ‘Resident Glitch’
With the government shutdown official Tuesday, October 1st, many Americans are left wondering what affect it will have on them. Will they keep getting their welfare benefits? Will their SSDI checks keep rollin’ in? Will they be furloughed? What does it mean for them? While many Americans are concerned with the effects the government shutdown may bring to them, one admirable group of World War II veterans have refused to allow the government shutdown to inhibit their patriotism.
On Tuesday, a group of Honor Flight World War II veterans knocked down the barricades set up by the federal government at the World War II monument in Washington D.C. The Honor Flight Network is an organization that brings elderly veterans from across the country to the nation’s capital to visit the war memorial. One elderly veteran told The Blaze that he had been planning the trip to D.C. for a year. Upon arriving at the memorial and being told it was closed, several members of Congress, including Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) helped the veterans bypass the barricades and visit the monument, which is standing to honor them. Rep. Steve King (R-IA) distracted police while the vets entered the memorial grounds. While park police did not stop the veterans, they responded by saying they are “seeking guidance on how to respond”, according to The Blaze. And according to The Daily Caller, the Obama administration actually knew in advance that these veterans were going to be visiting the World War II memorial and refused to make any accommodation for them, despite a request from a congressman.
This story is, I think, of extreme importance not just because of what actually happened, but because it is symbolic of what we as patriotic Conservatives must do to reclaim the America we know and love. We are currently in a governmental and political shutdown (literally and figuratively) and are in many ways at a crossroad. Republicans and Democrats in Washington want two different Americas, and the two are vastly different. Despite their alleged willingness to “work together” with Republicans, Democrats like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi want nothing of the sort. They don’t represent or support you, your children, or these veterans. They have allowed a government shutdown because what sweat is it off their backs? Or in their hero Hillary Clinton’s words, “what difference does it make?” When did the American people allow such mediocrity (I’m being kind, here) to represent their interests and determine their futures? Let me tell you something. These brave veterans came from a time when you didn’t sit back with a blindfold on, collect government checks off the back of taxpayers, and allow deranged career politicians make your decisions for you and hold your hand through life. They worked, they fought…both pretty hard. To them, a memorial symbolizing the fight for their country and against the Axis powers around the world is more important than adhering to a senseless and meaningless regulation set forth by an impotent government. These men have accomplished more in the years they served their country than mongoloids like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and President Glitch could ever accomplish in their lifetimes. Combined. I commend these heroes and I am proud to have men like them defend my liberty and freedom.
These veterans’ simple actions showed that they will not put government ahead of America. Liberals believe (or try to convince YOU) that America IS the government and they should be employed to run it. They believe the words America and government are synonymous. Conservatives believe America can flourish and succeed without the government liberals want because America is really her people. It’s America that gives you the chills when you sing the National Anthem or watch the fireworks on the 4th of July. The government means nothing. America does.
So Conservatives, are we going to act like the John McCains and Chris Christies and pretend the Liberal machine hasn’t completely destroyed this country and Obama isn’t really such a bad guy? No, we are going to act like these heroic veterans and break down the barricades the liberals have set up to limit and censor us because we believe in country before government. We all know what Obama’s son would look like if he had one. If I had a grandfather, he would look like these veterans.
