This Is What Tyranny Looks Like: Another Assault on the 2nd Amendment

There are very few things that are predictable in this country.

One thing that is predictable is: You can always count on the Obama administration to do the dishonorable thing.

The latest example of this fact is the Justice Department’s recent attempt to prosecute law-abiding citizens who purchase a gun and later sell that gun to another law-abiding citizen.

Attorney General Eric Holder and his general cronies are trying to call these legal transactions “straw purchases,” which would mean that anyone who privately sold a firearm would be guilty of committing a felony, based on the federal paperwork they signed at the time of purchase.

This is simply another blatant attempt by the Obama administration to thwart an individual’s Constitutional right to purchase, own, or sell a firearm and also to violate the right of the states to regulate these legal transactions.

Or to put it in its simplest terms, this is a back-door attempt to institute another form of federal gun control.

No less than half of our fifty states have filed suit with the U.S. Supreme Court to stop this tyrannical and excessive power-grab by the federal government.

As a United States senator from Illinois, one of America’s most hostile states to private gun ownership, Obama has made no secret of the fact that he opposes the Second Amendment.

There is absolutely nothing in his private history or professional record to suggest that Obama supports the rights of individual citizens to own firearms.

The most recent proof of this was the president’s willingness to exploit the shooting of school children at Sandy Hook Elementary to promote the institution of Universal Background Checks, which do absolutely nothing to stop random acts of gun violence, but always lead to non-random acts of gun confiscation.

If Obama had his way, nobody in America would have access to guns, nobody except for the police, the military, and the lawless thugs who currently break all the federal and state gun regulations we have now.

However, in his seemingly-endless desire to abolish the Second Amendment, the president is willing to settle for taking only one small bite of the apple, or at least he’s willing to settle until Obama’s able to successfully steal the whole orchard.

Every time an individual purchases a gun in America, he is forced to submit to a federal background check and answer a series of questions, paperwork that was only supposed to be maintained for a brief period of time.

But that is no longer the case under the Obama administration.

You can be certain that every bit of this gun transaction paperwork has been cataloged and maintained by the same kind, generous, and well-meaning federal officials who are now listening to every phone call you make and reading every e-mail you send.

If these states lose their suit against the federal government, Obama will instruct Eric Holder to make it illegal for any law-abiding citizen to transfer a firearm to anyone else without the benefit of federal paperwork and oversight to fully document the purchase.

And once the government is fully able to track the owner and location of every firearm in America, it will make it much easier for the government to take them away, something that is happening at this very moment in the city of New York.

You can be certain that Eric the Red, who also has made no secret of his opposition to private gun ownership, will be more than happy to comply with the president’s order.

Not only will you no longer be able to legally sell your guns to another law-abiding citizen, it will also be illegal for a father to purchase a hunting rifle as a gift for his son or to pass along his valued collection of firearms to family members as a part of his estate.

And at that point, the Second Amendment will simply be another set of words on a document that the president swore to uphold but routinely ignores.

Take a long, hard look, America.

This is what tyranny looks like.
