Not long ago, live on the Jimmy Fallon Show, the First Lady of the United States demeaned and disparaged an entire generation on national television. Ironically enough, this generation that Michelle claims isn’t competent enough to cook with out, “slicing their hands open” was the major driving force for her husband’s election in both 2008 and 2012. While I’m sure if FLOTUS addresses her comments publicly, she will claim she was simply misunderstood, sadly, I fear this gaffe is one the most honest things the public has ever heard from the Obamas.
Michelle forgets that when she makes these damning comments about today’s youth, she is condemning and insulting her own daughters. In just a few years, the Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia Obama, will be headed to college and cooking for the first. If Malia is not able to make herself a sandwich without disfiguring herself, it will be her parent’s fault for not teaching her. Unlike her mother, however, I have faith that both of Michelle’s daughters are amply capable of taking care of themselves.
It saddens me to think that the First Lady thinks so poorly of those younger than she, and hope she thinks more highly of her daughters than she let on with Jimmy Fallon. While I can not speak for the President’s children, as a 20 year old college student, I can confidently say that I do not fall under Michelle Obama’s obscene miscatagorization, and I don’t know anyone my age that does.
The First Lady’s words are as unfounded as they are classless, and she should be ashamed of herself. Young people, her husband’s constituency, deserves an apology, and it is incumbent upon Michelle to give one.
