Blame! TX Rep, Governor: Obama Creating ‘Refugee Camps’

Texas officials on Thursday claimed that President Barack Obama and his administration are turning U.S. military installations into “‘refugee camps” instead of working to secure the U.S.-Mexico border as a human tsunami of illegal alien children flood the nation’s immigration system.

One U.S. congressman scolded President Barack Obama and his minions complaining that the U.S. military bases — and even the Border Patrol Academy in New Mexico — are fast becoming camps geared towards handling the large numbers of illegal alien children and teenagers.

“Our military bases are turning into refugee camps. I never thought I’d see this in the United States of America,” House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said in a statement.

Chairman McCaul and Texas’ Republican Gov. Rick Perry held a hearing in McAllen, Texas, which sits in the Rio Grande Valley, a community directly affected by what amounts to an immigration crisis. Perry, who has even deployed some Texas Rangers to aid in controlling the border incursions, practically begged Obama to perform his constitutional duty. “Secure this border, Mr. President,” Perry said as he received loud applause.

The Obama administration found itself lacking enough temporary detention or housing for the illegal alien minors awaiting immigration officials’ determinations. They’re being housed wherever space can be found including at the Border Patrol Training Academy and a number of military bases like Ft. Sill in Oklahoma and Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

Gov. Perry told the news media that he will launch a multi-million dollar emergency fund in order to deploy state law enforcement agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety to help control the U.S.-Mexico border. He also stated that the Obama government needs to increase the number of Texas National Guard at the border.

Perry also complained about the lack of federal money being returned to the Texas state government and local police departments and hospitals. “The state should be reimbursed for the half-billion dollars it’s spent on border security over the past decade. We have been fulfilling a federal responsibility,” Perry said.

Rep. McCaul added that while many illegal alien supporters may believe they are on “the side of the angels” he points to the reality of this latest political exploitation by the radical left with the help of many so-called journalists:

These children are being exploited by the drug cartels who are turning a profit by smuggling these kids to the U.S. at a cost of $5,000 to $8,000 per child. Many are under the age of 10, traveling thousands of miles alone through Mexico from Central America on buses or so called “death trains”. These children are often subjected to beatings, starvation, sexual assault and are at risk of being trafficked. As a father of five, I cannot fathom handing my child over to a criminal and setting them out on this long and dangerous passage.
