Is this the end of times? The apocalypse that destroys western civilization as we know it be?
Rev. Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, believes so. He can’t “help but wonder if we are in the last hours before our Lord Jesus Christ returns”. Via the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website Graham had this to say:
As I read the news, I can’t help but wonder if we are in the last hours before our Lord Jesus Christ returns to rescue His church and God pours out His wrath on the world for the rejection of His Son, I don’t know if we have hours, days, months, or years—but as Christians, God calls us to take the truth of the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Our job is to warn sinners of the consequences of sin and show them that God is loving and gracious, willing to forgive if we come to Him in repentance and faith.
He went on to describe how he feels about the brutal religious persecution in the Middle East saying:
There appears to be no end to the bad news. The killing of Christians by Muslims from Indonesia to Bangladesh to Pakistan. China tearing down church buildings. Christians tortured, beheaded, and crucified in Iraq, with villages burned and churches destroyed, and much the same in Syria. American pastor Saeed Abedini is still imprisoned in Iran for his faith. Throughout Northern Africa, the Middle East, and many parts of the world, the church of Jesus Christ—and anyone or any group who bears His Name—is under attack.
“In our own country as well, there is great opposition to the church of Jesus Christ,” he stated.
We see this throughout the media, the entertainment industry, government, and politics. Jesus warned His disciples in Matthew 24 when they asked Him about the signs of the end of the age. He said there would be wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, and pestilence. He told them, “Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.”
Is America on a modern day crusade, with the Holy war still raging on in the modern day Middle East?
Depending on your outlook, there are a few schools of thought on why the crusades happened. In 1095, Pope Urban II encouraged armies to go to war with Muslims, with many historians believing that the crusades happened to defend Christianity and prevent the the expansion of Islam. Men willing to go to war to protect their God and beliefs to the death through conquest. The Muslims vowed to wage Jihad (a holy war) to defeat the Christians and win back the regions where they had been defeated.
Having to protect one’s religion through conquest seems almost silly giving that it is 2014 and not 1095. That after all of these years, the human race can’t accept that humans can freely worship their religions without conflict. It’s “freedom OF religion”, not “freedom FROM religion”.
The radical Islamist’s may be stuck in an era of time that has polluted their brains and have made them into murderers instead of martyrs. Do they even realize that the war won’t be fought on horseback drawing their sword in the name of Allah? Christians will not take the persecution and murdering of “infidels” lying down. They have put out the call, and Christians will answer.
