PAINFUL: A Sad Birthday, a Root Canal, Election Questions

by Noreen O’Brien

I wasn’t going to write about this week’s elections but three things happened to me that were significant and to me, worth mentioning. First, it was my deceased grandmother’s birthday. A directly-from-Europe, long time Democrat who called Tip O’Neal friend. Second, I went directly from a root canal across the street to vote for the first time in my newly adopted state of Maine; and thirdly, of course, was the butt kicking Obama received from the Republicans.

Now you may not see what these three things have in common so allow me to explain. I find all three of these things really quite painful. The first two need no explanation but the last just might.

Yes, America sent a message to Washington and yes, specifically, to Obama himself; but were they listening and more importantly do they care?? The answer is and always will be, no. While the Republicans were finding their backbones the Democrats were campaigning. They’ve infiltrated all aspects of our lives from our children to our elderly and they will continue unheeded.

Yes, what happened yesterday was wonderful, but I refuse to accept business as usual from the right. We are not the clean up team, we are not there to compromise and to reach agreements with the left. You won! Period! Do your jobs and start working for what the party stands for. Give this country back it’s hope and pride and a sense of belonging. We are the best, so make us feel it again. Don’t bow to the left, we’ve had enough of bowing. Don’t golf, lead!

Now, in my opinion Mitch McConnell is slightly less animated than John Boehner and I have a feeling he’ll cave as soon as Obama enters the room, so we have to be vigilant.

America is now an eat dessert first nation, they have no patience for the big picture, and let’s face it, the economy and Obama care will take a long time to repair so how about a huge gesture?? How about rounding up illegals and sending them packing or profiling Middle Easterners or putting Harry Reid in jail; you know, something to keep us hopping!!

Yes, last week was promising and made the president suddenly remember his campaign promises, but the work has only just begun. It’s up to Americans to keep the fires we’ve lit, burning. Things don’t stop at the election. If we want a strong country and a country to be proud of once again, we have to be the individual shining lights on the hill. We can’t depend on Washington if we can’t depend on ourselves.
