HEY, YOUNG LADIES: To Avoid Rape Don’t Answer Craiglist’s Ads From Rapists

Man suspected of luring women online arrested on rape, robbery charges.

A New Orleans man suspected of raping one woman and robbing another — both of whom police say he contacted through online classifieds websites — was arrested last week, court records show.

Police on Wednesday (Dec. 17) arrested McArthur Mackey, 31, on charges of aggravated rape, aggravating kidnapping and armed robbery in connection to crimes reported by two women on N. Broad Street this month.

Police said Mackey contacted both women via online personal ads — on Backpage.com and on Craigslist — court records show.

Court papers filed in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court indicate that Mackey is suspected in a “series” of similar incidents. Police on Tuesday could not confirm whether Mackey will be booked on additional counts.

The first incident occurred on Dec. 2, police said, when detectives were called to the scene of rape and robbery in the 7th Ward about 9:30 a.m. There, a 20-year-old woman told police officers that she had responded to an ad on Craigslist where a man was “seeking a female for companionship” and that the person who responded had sexually assaulted and robbed her.
