PASTOR OPENS UP CAN OF WHUP ASS: On Other Pastors Who Kiss Islam’s Backside

The results are in. Blog entries on Islam from liberal “Christian” writers such as Brian McLaren, John Pavlovitz, Jim Wallis, and Tony Jones reveal unanimous indignation and condemnation. These tolerant types who urge us to eschew judgment are themselves letting it all hang out. You might be thinking, “Well, good for them. It’s about time they condemn acts of Islamic aggression and senseless murder.” But, you’d be wrong. You see, it’s not so much the barbaric acts themselves that seem to have these fellows fired up.

After the recent slaughter in Paris, Jim Wallis condemned the “totally false and completely distorted representations of [Islam]. . . which, in its truest expression, is a religion of peace.”

His reaction was reminiscent of Pavlovitz, who after the Boston Marathon bombing observed, “I’ve seen so many Christians, stuck in that dangerous space; wildly flailing to assign blame, spraying cyberspace with status updates. . . that vilify an entire religion for the sadistic actions of two young men. . .” In his own words, he is “sick,” “tired,” “worn out,” and “weary” not of body parts sailing through the air, not of arms and legs separated from their respective torsos — no, but of Christians who, in the aftermath of a brutal Islamic massacre, react wrongly by questioning whether Islam is such a wonderful religion after all. He’s also had it with “macho Christianity” you should know.

If only these bloggers could find it in themselves to denounce with equal fervor the worldwide acts of butchering, burning, raping, and beheading Christians that are the regular diet of Islam. But, no. What will really get a chap like Brian McLaren seeing red is any suggestion by Christians that Muslim terrorists are really Muslims or that following Mohammed’s explicit orders in the name of Allah, as prescribed by the Qur’an, could have something to do with Islam.

We’ve come to expect President Obama to defend his favorite religion against those who would take the terrorists at their word when they do their grisly deeds in the name of Islam. But shouldn’t we expect just a smidgen of honesty from men who claim to be Christian leaders? One might wonder if their claim to Christ is no more genuine than his.

So, what is a true Christian to do and say in these times? What does the real God desire of his people? That we deny the present reality? Would he tell us to get off our high horses and get busy bleaching Islam’s crimson history?

We know that Jesus told us to love our neighbors and treat them as we would want to be treated. So, is it loving to my non-Muslim neighbor to conceal the truth about Islam? To cover my eyes as he and his children are pushed into the dark night of their dhimmitude? Is this what faithfulness to Jesus Christ demands of us in this hour?

Is it not written in Proverbs 24:10-12?

If you falter in times of trouble,
how small is your strength!
Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
(NIV)

Or do we take orders elsewhere?

In 1915, Djevdet Bey, governor of the Van Province in the Ottoman empire declared, “We have made a clean sweep of the Armenians and the Assyrians of Azerbaijan.” That was the beginning. Three years later, after Islam had had its way, as many as 1.5 million Armenian men, women, children, and elderly had been exterminated along with an estimated 1.25 million Assyrians and Greeks. As you read this sentence, Boko Haram is carrying out genocide against Nigerian Christians in the name of Allah. ISIS is having a throat-slitting good time in Iraq and Syria. And so-called lone wolf attacks by Muslims here on the home front are increasing.

No surprise. Almost without exception, wherever Islam has ventured for the past 14 centuries, unspeakable injustices have followed in its wake. The reason isn’t that millions of Muslims really didn’t understand Mohammed and the Qur’anic verses they had committed to memory. It’s not that their imams needed to sit at the feet of Ben Affleck (or someone else who gets paid to play make-believe) to be tutored on the true nature of Islam.

While surely there are Muslims who are uncomfortable with violence, it is only insofar as they are willing to be inconsistent with Islam. In its truest and purest expression, Islam – which means “submission” we should not forget – is about terror, intimidation, subjugation, world domination, and death to anyone who might object. When “leaders” in the Christian community shamefully bend themselves in every which direction to deny this fact and take part in the deception, they are not only peddling lies, they are involved in a very dangerous, and dare I say loveless, work.
