MARINE CORPS VS … THE BIBLE? Lance Corporal Appeals Court-Martial in Bible Verse Fight Over Faith and Freedom

The Bible has taken on another adversary and it appears to be the United States Marines. This happens to be the sad fact based upon a Marine who was court-martialed for refusing to remove Bible verses from her computer and desk. According to Fox News Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling was convicted at a court-martial for refusing to remove Bible verses on her computer and desk.

This in reality does not seem quite unexpected, based upon the Obama’s continuing attack upon displays of Christianity in the military. It appears that the verse in question was deemed by the military to be “contrary to good order and discipline.” The slightly altered scripture that so disturbed her Marine superiors was “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

The very fact that the military leaders would even have the time to challenge a young Marine with such a trivial prosecution is troubling when one considers that since the inception of the nation Christianity has been front and center and evoked by military leaders.

Yet, in the politically corrected world view of the Obama administration , this was enough to charge Sterling and convict her last February 1, 2014 at Camp Lejune, North Carolina.

One question that is to be central to the case is whether or not Sterling should have obeyed her staff sergeant and removed the Bible verses from her desk, or obey her higher authority being the U.S. Constitution which guarantees her freedom of speech?

Take a look at the actual verse and see if you can actually find something contained within it that is contrary to good order and discipline.

Isaiah 54:17: “ ‘No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the LORD.”

As a result of her court-martial, the former Marine is unemployed and has a bad conduct discharge lodged against her. Fortunately for her she has the highly successful Liberty Institute and former U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement representing her. They will be working to expunge the charge and restore this Christian Marine’s good name, reported Fox News.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act will be key to her case according to Liberty Institute and Clement. Her defense team firmly believe that the Act gives her the absolute right to post Bible verses as a form of her religious exercise.

The facts of the case also demonstrate that other Marines were allowed to decorate their desk, but Sterling was apparently singled out for her Biblical display of verses. According to Fox News, that evidence was not allowed for admittance by the lower courts.

If the Marine court-martial is allowed to stand then Heaven help the brave soldiers who would dare to let their fellow military comrades know that “No weapon forged against you will prevail.”
