Bill O’Reilly is calling on Americans to support a law that would impose a five-year federal prison sentence on illegal immigrants who are deported, but come back into the U.S. illegally.
The petition for the creation of “Kate’s Law” is addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner.
“We, the undersigned, respectfully ask Congress to pass Kate’s Law whereby undocumented aliens who are deported and return to the United States would receive a mandatory five year sentence in a federal penitentiary upon conviction,” the petition reads.
O’Reilly has highlighted this week the sanctuary city policies in San Francisco, where 32-year-old Kate Steinle was shot to death last week by an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times.
The man charged with the murder, 45-year-old Francisco Sanchez, was in jail as recently as April 15, but officials declined to prosecute. Federal authorities have said they were not notified by city officials of his release.
