Will Ferrell is a funny dude. One of the funniest. And the other 120 or so Hollywood fist-bumpers that recently put their support of Bernie Sanders to paper are also some of the best in their chosen field. When I want to see a great thespian do great thespian things I tune in to people like Will Ferrell. Kind of in the same way if I want to see someone who’s good at deflating footballs I tune in to watch the New England Patriots. It’s fun to watch those who are at the prime of their chosen profession do what they do best whatever the case may be.
That said, I don’t particularly care what Ferrell – or any of the other 120 or so – think politically. I pay them via my patronage to play roles in movies and on TV.
What I would ask though of Will Ferrell and the other 120 or so that signed on to support Sanders are two things:
First, let’s see what candidates you have donated money to thus far, and keep us updated as the political season trudges on.
Second, if you truly believe in the Sanders agenda, when tax season rolls around don’t just pay what the IRS says you owe. Instead, write them a check to match the percentage of your income Sanders says you owe and include a note to the IRS explaining what the additional money is to be used for.
My bet is, if one were to dig into donations made by these Hollywood types, one would find that plenty of money has and continues to flow Hillary’s way. Some probably goes towards the walking, talking caricature otherwise known as Trump. Some probably goes to actual GOP candidates too. Hollywood types may outwardly support leftist agendas but they too have their mind on their money and their money on their mind. They are thus smart enough to make sure they’ve set up a nice quid pro quo in the event Hillary or Sanders doesn’t win next year.
The left need not feel constrained by the tax code in handing their money over to the government. It’s what they say we all should do. There’s no time like right now for them — Hollywood types and all the rest — to set the example. I challenge Will Ferrell, the 120 or so others that back Sanders, and really everyone who supports the left’s agenda, to break free from the tax code. Send back that capitalist tax refund. Send more than what’s owed to the IRS. And do so with a note explaining that the extra money comes from those with the greatest ability to give to those with the greatest need. The left should have no problem setting an example for the rest of us considering that the bulk of their agenda is all about micromanaging every aspect of everyone’s lives.
Hollywood, are you all in or not?
