Remember that time in America back in the 1860s when nothing happened and nobody did anything? That will likely be the opening sentence to the next printing of New Orleans school’s history books. Why? Because it seems like the next logical step after the New Orleans City Council voted 6-1 to remove four Civil War statues guilty of committing “white supremacy”. We can thank the anti-South history propaganda machine that pigeons will no longer be able to use the statues of Robert E. Lee, P.T. Beauregard, Jefferson Davis and the Battle of Liberty Place for target practice. Also, a big chunk of American history is officially removed and replaced with solid bit of character assignation all in the name of revisionist hatred.
Local news channel WDSU quotes council member Jared Brossett as stating that the monuments are “symbols of oppression”. Another member, James Gray, took it a step further stating that a monument to Robert E. Lee was a monument to a criminal. Yep, no character assignation there.
As Twitchy.com reported, local response to Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s tweet of the decision was not as….progressive as the Mayor hoped.
Of course, when you allow people with race-infused political agendas to decide for everyone that the Civil War and southern history can only mean slavery, which makes all things “Confederate” evil, you’ve pretty much already lost the fight. To call Lee, or any Confederate, a “criminal” ignores history and Abraham Lincoln’s very specific intention to reunite the Republic by acknowledging Confederate soldiers as Americans, legitimate veterans and not criminals. Of course, ignorance of history is a key factor in the Left agenda. After all, if you’re happy to ignore the facts of history, you might ignore the consistent failure of liberal progressive philosophy.
