Oh boy, is this a wide-open subject, or what? There’s so much that goes on in the world that puzzles me that volumes could be written about it. On almost any subject, politics, amusements, religion, music…even the most mundane thing you can think of will have two or more sides to the discussion. Sometimes those discussions can get mighty heated…even coming to actual fights between the opponents. Let’s start off with a subject that is, or should be, uppermost in people’s minds today…politics.
Why, when there are true, earth-shaking matters going on in the world, are we so interested in a candidates ears, makeup color, hairline and color, facial features, and nose size? When the winning candidate is sitting in the Oval Office making a decision that will affect not just every man, woman, and child, in the United States, will any of that stuff matter? Why is politics and being a politician such a dirty business? It is, by definition, the science or art of government. Nothing in that definition mentions name-calling, mud-slinging or dirty tricks…so why do we hear and see that being done? My understanding of a political aspiration is to win the seat, not to demean the other people also vying for that seat.
Another thing that puzzles me, and this is still related to government, somewhat, is that we only have two major parties. Surely there are other people in the country that are just as smart, just as photogenic, just as able to voice an intelligent opinion, so where are they and why don’t we see another party? The so-called smart money says that a third party would split the two-party system and likely wind up electing someone that nobody wanted at all. I’d have to call BS on that one…but I could be wrong. Down through the years that I’ve been voting there have been many good people, expressing many good ideas, that just never made the grade…and it puzzles me why that’s so. Of course the general public has a problem, in my not-so-humble opinion…they are afflicted with the DKDC syndrome and that’s “don’t know, don’t care” when it comes to the running of America.
Why are American schools and school children falling so far down the ladder when we used to always be in the top 10 of just about everything? Is it because the people teaching the children aren’t as smart as they should be…or even as smart as they think they are? Subjects that were taught when I was in school are not now, like civics, which is how the government works…but you might be inundated with how Islam works. Geography, which taught you where places were, what they produced and the people in them, is not being taught now…but you can learn all about where Mohammed came from. It is common practice, it seems, to invite foreign students here, give them a world-class education and then send them back to their own countries…sometimes using that education against the United States in some manner.
At this point, a challenge for you. Ask your grandchildren who are still in school, all the way from first grade to college senior, if they can tell you the difference between a democracy and a republic. Ask them what the war of 1812 was about and who won?
Ask them what do the names Marquis De LaFayette, John Wilkes Boothe, or Reuben James mean to them? Then ask who are Kanye West, Eli Manning or Leonardo DiCaprio? My guess is that they will know all of the latter names and maybe some, if any, of the former names. Therein lies a puzzle, because if you do not know your own country’s history how can you effectively operate within it, to say nothing of governing it?
Lastly this puzzles me greatly…are there enough people with common sense and, yes, patriotism, to understand what is happening to this country? The old phrase, which was applied to slaves, was that they were being “sold down the river”, and that is exactly what is happening to our country now…and the current government is doing the selling! Americans, to my great astonishment, are swallowing a line of BS hook, line and sinker, never realizing that they are defeating themselves. We are, literally, importing our own killers when we bring in the so-called “refugees” who have not, contrary to the government’s speeches, been vetted to the point where they can be trusted. We never vetted a man who said he was going to fundamentally transform America and he damn near has! Why did no one question to what we were going to be transformed?
