Do you think that Republicans would be stupid to run a third party candidate? Or do you think that would be a great idea? Here’s what Ben Carson thinks about it.
Former GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson wants Republican-leaning pols to think twice before launching a third party bid against Republican Donald Trump, issuing this colorful warning.
‘America right now is like a cruise ship that is about to go off of Niagara Falls with tremendous carnage and death,’ Carson said.
The retired neurosurgeon said to solve this crisis, ‘what you have to do is first recognize the problem, stop the ship, turn it around and then move in the other direction.’
Carson, a Trump supporter, was likely worried about the the Gary Johnson-headed Libertarian Party ticket, which is the party’s most formidable in years.
Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, linked up with former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld and could attract new voters to the party, with both Trump and Clinton being disliked by a majority of American voters.
‘I’m hoping that whoever that third party candidate is will stop for a moment and think about what the implications are of allowing Hillary Clinton or someone like her to get in there,’ Carson continued.
‘They get two to four Supreme Court picks and completely change the nature of this country and destroy the prospects for their children and their grandchildren to have the same opportunities that they had,’ he added.
Carson, like Trump who he’s now supporting, was another political outsider who briefly topped the GOP polls, around Halloween of last year.
