President George H.W. Bush has announced his endorsement! Or HAS he..?
broke a story, with a photo of Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, the former Maryland lieutenant governor and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy.
The caption read: ‘The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!’
She told Politico on Monday that she had met with Bush in Maine, where she said he told her that he was voting for Clinton.
‘That’s what he said,’ she told the site.
Should we believe that? Maybe. Maybe not.
But Bush’s spokesman, Jim McGrath, told Politico in an email that the vote Bush will ‘cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days’.
There a number of reasons this is fodder for the rumor-mill. Jeb was handled roughly in the Primaries, and there may be lingering resentment. He has a public friendship with Bill Clinton. He did not attend the GOP convention. And, significantly, he’s a political insider in an election that features anti-establishment rhetoric.
Which way will his vote swing? Will he make it public?
Did Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend ‘let the cat out of the bag’, or is she just another of the Kennedys lying to the public?
