IT’S TIME: The Question About ‘Natural Born Citizen’ Needs to Be SETTLED

United States Constitution; Article II; Section 1; Paragraph 5:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

That paragraph seemed pretty clear and widely accepted from our country’s founding until 2008 and the nomination of Progressive Democrat, Barak Obama for President. Anyone that questioned the meaning of the term “natural born Citizen” became a potential target for up to and including assassination. The question of definition came up for multiple interpretations, generally a foundation for near civil uprising, and ultimately, no more cries for interpretation. Once Obama was sworn in as President, that fear caused many to slink into silence.

When John McCain ran against Obama, the Progressive Democrats raised the issue of his being born abroad to American Citizens, his father in active military service in Panama. This is believed to be solely to insulate their candidate from further questions about his not being a “natural born Citizen”.

Silence reigned true until during the Republican Presidential Primary Debates of 2015/2016. From the Progressive Democrats, the interpretation of “natural born Citizen” was whispered to be lying in wait for challenge should either Senator Ted Cruz or Senator Marco Rubio win the Republican Primary nomination.

(Senator Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father, that three years after his birth became a Canadian citizen and later a nationalized U.S. citizen. Rubio was born in the United States to immigrant Cuban parents that became naturalized U.S. citizens after his birth).

However, some advisors of the Progressive Democrats advised against questioning definition of a “natural born Citizen” because, once again, the questions about Obama would be resurrected.

(Obama’s father is recorded to be a Kenyan citizen; his mother an underage American. His place of birth remains broadly accepted under a cloud of authenticity to what is suspected by many to be a forged birth certificate. Obama is further rumored to have his citizenship established as a youth by adoption into and by an Indonesian stepfather.)

Obama will soon be out of office and it will be just over four years before a new challenger to the definition of “natural born Citizen” could be nominated. That leaves time for legislators on both sides of the aisle to assure that this question will be put to rest.

I challenge my two Senators, (Wyden and Merkley) and my Congressional Rep. (DeFazio) to show some gonads and ASAP, propose an unburdened definition of “natural born Citizen” for presentation to the next Congress and President and subsequent passage as law. There is a variety and large amounts of research available to guide you.

By unburdened I mean no midnight Pork additions and that the language is clear and simple enough for We the People to understand. Don’t develop and camouflage ways around with “legal speak”, (aka Bovine Excrement).

Failure to swiftly prepare and propose this idea to your congressional peers will only emphasize your lack of worth as legislators that “We the People” pay for. I for one will watch and report to my peers of your interest and progress or lack of same.
