Say What? Piers is suddenly making a lot of sense lately. Is that still LEGAL in the UK?
Morgan has taken a lot of heat on ClashDaily, (usually for his position on Second Amendment issues). But we’re noticing he’s been right on target lately. Credit where it’s due.
Here are a few of his recent pieces. He called out Jill Stein as a stunt. Slammed Mariah Carey. Called out Clintonian hypocrisy posing as defenders of America from foreign interests. And he had two consecutive slams for Obama… (and while we differ on the ‘gun culture’ assessment in the latter one, we enthusiastically agree with his assessment of Chicago’s murder rate and the worsening of racial tensions.)
Those headlines were —
1) The game’s over Mr President – and your team lost. End your Trump temper tantrum and show some dignity
2) Call this disgusting attack in Obama’s back yard exactly what it is: a Trump-hating race crime against a defenseless white man by young black Americans who shame their country
And we’re not even to the latest story yet!
He took on Meryl Streep! Even his HEADLINE trolled her! (See for yourself.)
(And this is from a fan! He says so explicitly. he is just calling B.S. where he sees it.)
The Standing Ovation? That referred to Roman Polanski. Hollywood darling. And child rapist.
“In the above video, Streep and her cadre of “vilified” Hollywood peers can be seen applauding for Roman Polanski — a man who fled the U.S. to avoid prosecution for charges of raping a 13-year-old girl.” — Independent Journal Review
[But Trump jerked his arm while he was mocking someone? Unforgivable!]
What, exactly, did Piers say? There’s too much to quote in full, but here are some highlights
She then said that if all the ‘outsiders and foreigners’ were kicked out of Hollywood, ‘you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.’
I haven’t heard such elitist snobbery since Hillary Clinton branded Trump supporters ‘a basket of deplorables’.
For your information, Ms Streep, tens of millions of ordinary Americans love football and the MMA and would be quite happy watching their favourite sports at the expense of the next Woody Allen film.
So far so good…
What else did he have to say?
[Streep continued,] ‘Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.’
At this point, I laughed out loud with incredulity.
Not at the words themselves, which are laudable.
No, it was at the hypocrisy.
You’d be hard-pushed to find an industry that encourages more disrespect and violence than Hollywood.
A place where rich powerful people make billions of dollars by regularly pandering to the lowest common denominators of sexism, racism, homophobia and misogyny.
And happily exploit ever more hideous, graphic violence to make a fast, easy buck.
And seethe from every tinsel-encrusted pore with the very kind of nasty, power-based bullying that Meryl Streep claims to be so incensed by in Trump.
So great though her censorious words indisputably are, they would be perhaps better directed at her own back yard.
NAILED IT! They make MILLIONS on exactly the same thing they pretend to be upset about. You can throw musicians — including rappers — into that same ‘basket’.
And as for her call for protecting the media?
What media? They were AWOL. Asleep at the wheel. Active participants in a bait-and-switch. Or, as Piers put it…
But when it comes to the truth, many parts of America’s media were found severely wanting in this election campaign.
Frankly, a lot of the coverage was a fact-starved partisan disgrace as they fought to see who could sink deeper into the tank for Hillary Clinton.
The mainstream US media, having gleefully fuelled Trump’s candidacy for months to suit their own self-serving commercial interests, then turned on him like spitting cobras when he looked like he might actually win.
It’s also a fact that no president in modern times has been so anti-press, or so intent on attacking press freedom, as Barack Obama, one of Streep’s heroes.
Under his administration, the US government has set a new record for withholding Freedom of Information Act requests. Obama’s also used the Espionage Act to prosecute whistleblowers who leak to journalists more times than all previous administrations COMBINED.
So yes, the stench of hypocrisy throughout Streep’s speech was putridly pungent.
What can the media (D) learn from this? For one thing, it IS possible for a journalist to like someone and still call them out when they are wrong.
Well played, Piers.
