Two days after he was inaugurated in 2009, Barack Obama signed an executive order closing the detention camp for jihadist would-be murderers at Guantanamo Bay within a year. He gave his first televised interview as president to al-Arabiya, an Arab television network. During that interview, he apologized for his rotten country, stating “We sometimes make mistakes. We have not been perfect.”
Eight years later, Gitmo is still open (thankfully), the Middle East is in flames, ISIS controls Libya, and dozens of innocent Americans have been slaughtered by Islamist fanatics on American soil. Barack Obama’s presidency demonstrated many things, including the inevitable failure of leftist ideology and the arrogance of its adherence, and the fact that hope is not a strategy, and sometimes change is not always an improvement. More important, though, it proved what a tremendous error the American people made electing a clueless former academic and “community organizer” who not only did not believe in American exceptionalism, but had a barely concealed contempt for the Founding Fathers, the Constitution and the traditional American way of life.
Truth time: Obama was elected for his race and his ability to read from a TelePrompTer. The last several days have made it clear that these virtues are insufficient.
Obama was often praised for his “soaring rhetoric”, which inspired liberal media pundits to swoon, and even experience bizarre “thrills” up their legs and other physical sensations unseen outside a Justin Beiber concert. I know—I don’t get it either, especially considering the obvious fact that off the TelePrompTer, more than once, he was reduced to a stammering, babbling fool. Sadly, when it came to fixing our stagnant economy, incessant blather was all we got from Obama and his merry band of Marxist mouthpieces. The contrast between the dishonest, silly, thin-skinned empty suit and our new president, a man of action, an accomplished, high-achieving problem solver, could not be more stark.
It should have been obvious from the jump that, for all the self-congratulatory and delusional statements Obama and his minions endlessly repeated, and still do, about inheriting the worst economy since the Great Depression, and pulling it back from the brink, fixing it, and the stagnation that caused so much suffering for so many Americans was very low on Obama’s priority list. Like all radical leftists, he was absolutely committed to income redistribution, while forgetting that without economic growth, there’s nothing to redistribute to the Downtrodden to buy their votes.
Now, only five days into his presidency, Donald J. Trump has done more to relieve that afore-mentioned suffering than Barack Obama did in eight years. Actually, President Trump could have accomplished that feat by doing absolutely nothing, since many of Obama’s actions destroyed jobs and opportunity. His signature “accomplishment”, the Orwellian named “Affordable Care Act” was the most destructive of all, helping to make Obama the most successful food stamp president in history, the biggest contributor to the national debt, and the First President to Spend More on Welfare Than Defense!
Already, President Trump has resuscitated the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines, and directed federal agencies to waive, delay or modify provisions of Obamacare that impose undue burdens on businesses and American citizens. Knowing that it is filled with leftist apparatchiks who despise capitalism, he has muzzled the malignant EPA, also a wrecking machine for free enterprise. (Watch for mass hysteria, and predictions of pestilence and death from the usual passel of pinko whiners.)
Every day brings another example of a refreshing phenomenon: a president actually doing what he said he was going to do. Will it continue? Is it too soon to say “morning in America”?
