ACADEMIA FAILING: What Does The Deterioration Of Higher Education Mean For America’s Future?

Colleges are supposed to be preparing our young people to enter noteworthy professions and fields after graduation. These are to be the future leaders of America and contributors to our great society.
Unfortunately, in current Academia, the price for a four-year education has risen dramatically and the quality of the education has plunged downward dramatically. This change has been coming for many years, but it went into super-overdrive with the election of Barack Hussein Obama. That President was determined to “fundamentally transform America”, and so he did…but not for the better.

The colleges and universities went full speed ahead to adhere to, and even enhance, Obama’s progressive agenda. These young students are easily influenced by extreme leftist professors, and the dumbing-down of American youth is what is going on in schools where tuition can be fifty thousand dollars a year and up. College administrators are weak and allow outrageous and distasteful behavior on campus by both faculty and students.

Some of these have also been fueled by the Muslim student associations whose participants demand all sorts of accommodations under the guise of religion and get them. No other religious groups are afforded any accommodation.

Political correctness runs rampant with some of the most ridiculous statements such as “expecting Americans to use proper grammar is racist”, this from the University of Washington at Tacoma. Black students at the University of Michigan demand a “permanent space on campus for black students and students of color to organize and do social justice work”. A New York University professor was ousted for a semester because on his Twitter account he protested against the political correctness culture, stating that it was causing the destruction of academic integrity.

The whole idea of safe spaces for students is bizarre. The current snowflakes are easily upset by hearing opposing views. Visiting lecturers who don’t toe the progressive line are frequently disinvited. Any debates which include opposing views are quickly discouraged. The students of today are coddled. When a student group at Brown University became upset about a debate to be held on campus, a safe space was set up for the delicate darlings with cookies, coloring books, Play-doh, music, pillows and blankets. What kind of graduate will this produce? Certainly not future leaders and builders of America.

The Liberals claim that they are so tolerant. However, the tolerance only extends to other Liberals, Muslims, illegals and blacks. Many invited lecturers had to be disinvited because they were conservative and the students didn’t agree with their message. Ben Shapiro, conservative author, was cancelled at California State Los Angeles; Condoleezza Rice was disinvited as commencement speaker at Rutgers; Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Somali-born Dutch-American activist, author, and critic of Islam was disinvited at Brandeis University; Tim Scott, a black Senator from South Carolina was cancelled at Coastal Carolina University; at Hampshire College Afrofunk Band Shokazoba was cancelled because a student group claimed that too many white musicians played in the band; finally, at Berkeley, violence erupted because Milo Yiannopoulos, a gay conservative speaker was scheduled. A large number of masked protesters dressed in black clothing arrived, stormed police barricades and lit fires. The students were already protesting and this outside group encouraged violence.

Last word: Today it is considered “cool” on many college campuses to demean Christians and Jews. This may be due to the activists in the Muslim student associations, who persist in trying to knock down Christianity and Judaism while elevating Islam. Most people do not realize the damage that the current atmosphere in the colleges is causing. Instead of institutions of learning we have institutions of indoctrination and hate. There is an encouragement of behaviors and actions which is detrimental to the future survival of this country.
