Crooks are getting crafty. Be alert!
It isn’t just the knock on the door to see if you’re at home trick anymore. It’ bolder than that.
Now they hammer on the door and wait.
When you unlock the door, it swings open and they burst in on you before you can react. All because they’ve wrapped an elastic band around the latch.
Kim Cernigliaro wrote a message on Facebook alerting everyone to the dangers that could await them if they found a rubber band on their door handle.
“Two weeks ago during the day, a hard knock was at my front door, not a regular knock but almost pounding … and I DO NOT answer the door when I am here by myself,” she wrote.
During the scary situation, Cernigliaro followed her gut.
“I glanced around and could see it was a man through the stained glass of my door,” she wrote.
Cernigliaro waited and when she finally went outside about 30 minutes later, she expected to see a brochure, but found instead a rubber band fastened around her door handle.
Kim called the police and asked about the strange office supply, and what they told her was shocking: “The sheriff came by yesterday and said this is happening all of a sudden, as soon as you unlatch the door, they do not wait for you to turn the knob, they can bust in on you.” — CT
