Should we expect people that come to the United States to conform to ‘American Values’?
Remember that whole ‘Meting Pot’ concept?
The one that Barry was determined to toss out and replace with ‘Multiculturalism’ — the concept that all cultures are equal and of equal value.
If you ask a Leftist that loooves multiculturalism if that cultural ‘equality’ includes the inequality of women in Islam, the barbaric acts of female genital mutilation, the death penalty for being gay, etc., they won’t answer you.
You’ll just be called a racist.
It used to be that people wanted to come to the U.S. to become American and enjoy the freedoms, opportunities, and privileges that exist here unlike anywhere else in the world.
Not so much anymore.
Many want to keep their ‘cultural practices’ and make the US into little enclaves of their homeland. (Like ‘Dearbornistan‘, Michigan.)
Check out the interesting High Court ruling in Italy according to the Italian News Agency, ANSA:
(ANSA) – Rome, May 15 – The Italian High Casssation Court on Monday ruled against a Sikh Indian migrant who wanted to carry in public a knife that his religion considers sacred, even though it is against Italian law. The Court said migrants who choose to live in the Western world have an obligation to conform to the values of the society they’ve chosen to settle in, even if its values differ from their own. “An attachment to one’s own values, even if they are lawful in the country of origin, is intolerable when it causes violating the laws of the host country,” the Court said.
“The multiethnic society is a necessity, but it can’t lead to the formation of conflicting cultural groups of islands according to the ethnicities they’re made up of, precluding the unity of the cultural and judicial fabric of our country, which identifies public safety as an asset to defend and as such bans carrying weapons and objects aimed at injury,” the Court said.
The ruling had to do with a Sikh man carrying a kirpan, a small ceremonial dagger that Sikh men must carry as part of their faith, in public. The court ruled that public safety was of more imminent concern than conforming Italian laws to the particular needs of immigrants.
The Sikh man had appealed against another court’s decision that had ordered him to pay a €2,000 (Rs.1.4 lakh) fine because he was caught leaving his home in Goito, northern Italy, with a knife measuring nearly 20 cm, said local media reports.
