As I write this, the night James Comey was fired, I’m amused by the predictable reaction from the swamp dwellers that live within the confines of I-495 aka “the beltway”.
Could it be that Trump’s decision wasn’t political?
Could it be that the timing wasn’t timing at all?
In other words…
I’ve been fired from one job and one job only in my working life. A long, long time ago I worked in a chain grocery store that you’d recognize if I gave you the name. (Hint, it rhymes with O’jer’s.) I started as a grocery bagger. I was all of sixteen. It was my second job after a stint washing dishes at a Shoney’s Restaurant. I was good enough as a bagger that management moved me into a position in produce not normally reserved for high school kids. It was great.
Except I couldn’t differentiate a cabbage from a lettuce.
So when customers came to my desk so that I could weight and sticker their produce (yes, that’s how it was done 25+ years ago…back then the idea of scales at the cash registers hadn’t happened yet.) I even had the opportunity to sticker Johnny Cash’s produce – he lived in our town and once in a while, later at night, did his own shopping. If I messed up the man in black’s produce he was kind enough to never make issue with it. However, a dozen other customers or so did as they rolled into the checkout aisle with stickers charging them way more for things they weren’t buying because yours truly had no idea what was what is the produce department.
So I was fired from working produce.
Fortunately, I wasn’t fired from the store that rhymes with Yoger’s. Just so happened the night dairy spot opened up which I moved into. Ever worked night dairy at a grocery store in a small town? It is one of the best jobs out there. After the coming home from work rush ends, nobody buys dairy. So basically, the job consisted of stocking product one by one – vice by the crate – and doing janitorial work covering three or four aisles adjacent to the dairy cases. Anyway…
It’s high time Comey got fired. He blew it months ago. If any other American working man or woman did the same thing in his or her job, fired would be the result.
The only thing unusual about Comey’s firing is that Trump didn’t do it all nice and pretty like they do it in the swamp, President Trump just levied a “you’re fired”, the way it’s done everywhere else.
