Probably not, because it makes America look awesome and socialized medicine look evil.
This is a parent’s worst nightmare. It involves those ‘death panels’ we were told don’t exist within socialized medicine.
First was the heart-wrenching news that their baby had a rare genetic condition and brain damage. He was placed on life support.
Like any loving parents would, the moved heaven and earth looking for something that would offer hope to their baby. And they kept looking until they found hope.
England had nothing to offer in the way of treatment.
But there was a procedure — still experimental — in the US that could offer a glimmer of hope.
It wouldn’t come cheap. They started raising money.
In the end, they raised almost £1.4million ($1.8 Million USD) for treatment.
Specialists in London, where he was on life support, objected to him getting such treatment.
Doctors OPPOSED his being treated in the US — in court. Arguing that the infant’s life support should be cut off. Literally, ‘medical experts’ were arguing that the child should die.
It comes after specialists at Great Ormond Street said therapy in the US is experimental and will not help and added that life support should stop.
And after losing legal battles in the UK, Charlie’s parents were hoping judges in Strasbourg, France, would come to their aid.
But on Tuesday afternoon, the ECHR rejected a last-ditch plea and their ‘final’ decision means the baby’s life support machine will be switched off.
The ECHR announced the application to the court by the parents was ‘inadmissible’ and added that their decision was ‘final’.
If you’re wondering about that acronym, it stands for European Court of Human Rights.
No kidding. They found parents did NOT have the right to spend the money they had raised on therapy offering a faint hope of helping their baby. It was better to the court that he dies.
What’s the takeaway here? Three things in particular:
One: The US healthcare system that Bernie, Pelosi, and others complain about is the one place that offered hope of treatment when other ‘better’ systems (even the vaunted European heath care system) failed.
Two: When the government can’t fix your problem, people will ‘find a way’, gather resources, and seek out a free-market solution. (Which is WHY the US system is far superior to all others.)
Three: Socialism just does not value human life the same way we do.
