Here’s The 1st White Player In NFL To Protest The Nat’l Anthem

Just because Colin Kaepernick isn’t playing for the NFL it doesn’t mean that the anthem activism he started is over. Check out this fresh load of B.S.

Football players are kneeling for the anthem again — including Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch and Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett.

Now, a white football player is joining them.

Chris Long, defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles, joined his teammate Malcolm Jenkins in sitting out of the anthem.

Long, the son of FOX Sports analyst and Hall of Famer Howie Long, played for the New England Patriots during their Super Bowl-winning season last year.

This is a big turnaround for Long who previously criticized those that were protesting the anthem and in the past said that he would never kneel.

“I’ve said before that I’ll never kneel for an anthem because the flag means something different for everybody in this country,” he said, “but I support my peers. If you don’t see why you need allies for people that are fighting for equality right now, I don’t think you’ll ever see it.”

So why the change of heart?

Long said that his decision in part was due to the events in Charlottesville.

“It’s been a hard week for everybody,” he said. “It’s not just a hard week for someone being from Charlottesville. It’s a tough week for America.”

This isn’t the first time that politics and the NFL have collided for Long.

Long also said this year that, as a member of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, he would not visit the White House for the ceremonial congratulations from President Donald Trump.

Wow.

Maybe this is why so many are tuning out. People don’t want their entertainment politicized.

Bro, I just want to watch a football game not be lectured about race relations.

I’d like you to show respect for our anthem and our flag, is that too much to ask?

Are football players allowed to voice their political views? Absolutely. But the football field isn’t the place to do it.

It used to be that football was one of those universals that we all had as Americans — no matter what you believed politically, at least we could talk about the game and be united in our love for it. It’s a truly American thing.

Those days seem to be slipping away, and it’s really a shame.
