So Lame: Prof Lets Snowflakes Choose Their Own Grades For ‘Stress Reduction’

If a college student you know is in this prof’s classes, their grade means nothing.

Literally.

How does this work, exactly?

Does a student go up to the professor and request a grade change for ‘stress’?

How would that work?

‘Hey, Prof, I’m pretty stressed. I think I don’t deserve this 42% and a 100% would help me feel way less stressed.’

It looks like that’s exactly how it works.

Only via email.

University of Georgia business professor, Dr. Richard Watson, has introduced the policy for two of his courses, ‘Data Management’ and ‘Energy Informatics’.

If a student feels ‘unduly stressed’ by a grade they receive, they can submit the new grade that they want and it will be changed, no questions asked.

Further, students can opt out of group work — without any explanation — and all of the ‘tests’ and ‘exams’ will be open book.

In-class presentations will only be allowed to have ‘positive’ comments, and comments designed to ‘improve future presentations’ (read: Negative) will be communicated by email.

No, even Elementary schools have real tests, require group work, and give out a grade based on student achievement.

Campus Reform shows the policy here:

Some are finding fault with Dr. Watson’s policy:

Dr. Watson does know that there are some problems with his policy, but he’s ok with that. Because the learning is up to the student.

Watson, notably, does concede that “while this policy might hinder the development of group skills and mastery of the class material,” those outcomes are ultimately a student’s “responsibility,” though he promises to “provide every opportunity for [students] to gain high level mastery.”

Dr. Watson is apparently ok with giving students that don’t have mastery an A even if they don’t deserve it.

Bravo, Professor.

Way to cave to the Snowflake Generation.

Here’s a book that the Prof needs to read.

Study hard, Dr. Watson. Life is the test.
