When I first read this statement I could not help but feel that Democrats left just a little bit of factual history out. Understandable, since it is not very sexy to list the KKK after FDR. Or even Jimmy Carter. Democrats.org has essentially implied here that from the foundation of our country, they have been fighting for the better cause of the people. They are the heroes of American history. The mouthpiece of minorities. The champions of human rights. The creators of cool new web sites for politicians.
But maybe in their 200-year old statement they should have mentioned how they are the party of Scott v. Sandford, also known as the Dred Scott decision circa 1857. In this case, the Supreme Court ruled that blacks were not people, but property. The two dissenting votes were composed of a Republican and a Whig, while the seven majority votes were made up of Democrats and Jacksonians, who would later come to found the modern Democratic Party. This ruling is all too similar to the left’s stance today on abortion, where a fetus is not really a person but just a woman’s property, which she may choose to dispose of without any infringement. How’s that for civil rights?
Democrats have also adapted the look-over-there strategy when it comes to the Ku Klux Klan. They would like you to forget that the KKK was a Democratic hate machine which not only lynched blacks, but also Republicans that fought for their rights. Accordingly, it was Republicans that launched attacks on the KKK in attempts to stifle its terrorism. For example, Edmund Jackson Davis, the 14th governor of Texas, founded the Texas State Police which was about 40% black at the time and was originally focused on battling crimes associated with the Reconstruction.
But nowadays, the left wants you to believe that it is Republicans who have waged war on black people simply because they believe in welfare reform and the rights of the unborn. See, nothing says hatred like believing people should only receive help for a limited time between jobs and that babies should not be killed in the womb.
Then there are women’s rights. Democrats today do not mean much about women’s rights other than their “right” to abortion. It has gone from suffrage and equal employment, to their “right” to abort – a right so essential that we must all pay for it.
Thanks to Democrats, America has undergone decades of virulent feminism which has not only hurt women, but the family structure as well. If you don’t believe we are terminally ill with feminism as a nation, just watch a sitcom. The man never knows what to do and always needs the woman to step in and save the day. His Y chromosome won’t allow him to do anything but sit on the couch, watch football, and stroke his beer gut.
The purpose of Women’s liberation, one of the Democrats’ proudest crusades, was not only to find a way to tax the other half of the population but also to break up the family. They demeaned the profession of housewives, indoctrinated women to look at marriage as slavery, and made sexual promiscuity the equivalent of sexual liberation.
Somehow the party of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and President Obama believe that having government-sponsored abortion and contraception empowers women. But at the same time, women are weakened when they guard their virginity for a man who will jump through all the marriage hoops; and wives who choose to stay home and raise a family are insolent and lazy. Poor suckers.
Even double-standards are lost to the Democrat left, as was made even clearer this week when actress Ellen Barkin tweeted how she wishes tropical storm Isaac would wash every “pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean!” Of course, she meant conservative republicans. Cher also tweeted how it would be karma if Todd Akin got raped by a man with HIV/AIDS in light of his recent comments about abortion and rape. I can almost hear the KKK salivating.
There was no apology or take back from either celebrity, but then again they are justified. After all, didn’t an abortion clinic get bombed just this August 15th by a racist right-winger? No? Oh, that’s right, it was the Christian-based Family Research Council that was shot up by a pro-gay activist. And these are the very people that Democrats pride themselves in supporting.
Tampa police were not lost to the violent record of Democrats, either. They cleared out a whole jail just to make room for leftist protestors at the Republican National Convention. Sorry, what was the last time we saw any kind of obnoxious protest on behalf of Republicans at any DNC? Don’t worry, I’ll wait.
Democrats have no problem calling Republicans racists, hate mongers, anti-woman, and every other delicious name in the book while their beloved Occupy movement is defecating on police vehicles, raping women in their camps, and defacing public and private property.
Yeah, I would be proud of those accomplishments, too.
