Several segments of American society are clearly under assault, culturally and legislatively, by other segments. The mouse has risen to roar at the lion, and for the most part this mismatch has played out in ways that portray the mouse as juggernaut and the lion as … a timid pussycat. Enough already, say I! It is high time for a return to an America where freedom of conscience and respect for all segments of society rules the day.
Traditional gender roles are under frontal attack. Hollywood cannot make a sitcom, movie or even commercial without over-representing the GLBT community. Why do I dare imply over-representation? Just click through the TV channels. Even the “reality” shows on HGTV and the Food Network have some GLBT representation every third or fourth episode, giving the subtle implication that people of “alternate” lifestyles equal a quarter to one third of the population, when, in fact, reliable statistics put the number around 5%.
The federal government and the NEA are in lock-step pushing this agenda also. The gay community has even taken to bullying their own, for not being “gay enough“, whatever that means. I recently read a response by actor Sean Hayes to criticism from the gay publication The Advocate, implying that he has “skirted the issue of his sexuality for too long.“ For those who remember, Hayes portrayed Jack McFarland, the flamboyantly gay neighbor on Will & Grace for eight years, picking up seven Emmy nominations along the way for his acting in the show. Last time I checked, a person’s sexuality was a private matter, not public property. Hayes was gracious if wounded in his reply, but the insistence of the gay community on owning his private life because he is “one of them” is nothing short of bullying.
As a masculine male I refuse to be bullied into diplomatic silence or retreat of principles by feminine men or masculine women. Don’t get me wrong here. I have no desire to persecute or harass other people, but neither will I stand timidly aside while a tiny segment of the population attempts to use my government, public education and popular culture (sheep mentality) to buffalo me into acquiescence and approval of their choices. If you push me, I will push you back. Hard.
The pendulum has swung very far to the opposite pole on this matter. It is time to restore some balance, and simply say “No more.” Straight people need to stop surrendering ground, based on false guilt and perverse sophistry. We CAN all get along, but not while one side is bludgeoning the other.
The same message goes out to those members of the Black community who insist upon capitalizing on White guilt. Bill Cosby and Thomas Sowell have said it better and with more authority than I will ever have. Stop doing the things that are self-destructive while blaming it on others. Please stop using the old, phony canard of slavery reparations as an excuse. Slavery ended over one hundred and fifty years ago, and Jim Crow has been dead for over forty years. You aren’t “victims” of a pandemic evil Whitey. I know that White racism still exists, probably always will. But it has been in steep decline for decades, and Black racism is not a substitute for personal accountability. I support every effort of every individual to advance their own situation, providing it doesn’t come at the expense of penalizing someone else. If we want to level the playing field in society, we need to raise our own end, not lower the other guy’s. That way everyone wins, and we get to enjoy that wonderful, empowering sense of self-reliance.
Christian Americans also need to stop retreating. What does it say about us when we start to compromise and apologize the moment our principles are put under hostile public scrutiny? Do we hold that these truths are God’s or not? Since when did situational ethics supplant inviolate, absolute truth? If we believe in Him, we are required to also believe in His Word. When the federal (or any) government begins to assault our freedom of belief, our responsibility is clear. Our government is of the people, by the people, and for the people. We are not here to serve it. When did this idea that we must kowtow to Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and Harry Reid get any traction? Or Barack Obama and Joe Biden? These are very misguided, arrogant people who have forgotten (or maybe never knew) that they serve us. They are hirelings from a temp agency, and fully removable. Are we going to let the hired help order us around? Nancy Pelosi and her ilk need to get to know a new word; “No!” It works wonders for disobedient children and spoiled politicians alike.
Other than the aforementioned politicians, it’s not my intent to antagonize anyone in writing this, although I know that’s unavoidable. Ideals clash for power in a free society, and I’ll not to be bullied into silence on principles. Neither should anyone else. If bullying is what we are reduced to in resolving our differences, we have already lost our nation from within.
