Doug Mainwaring is the founder of the National Capital Tea Party Patriots who divorced his wife to explore his homosexual proclivities. Over the course of ten years, however, Mainwaring came to realize that raising a family with two people of the same gender is just not the same as raising a proper family. He added that “denying children parents of both genders is an objective evil. Kids need and yearn for both.” Mainwaring cites when his 16 year old son went to kiss his mother and how that tender moment of affection would not have been possible in a household with two fathers.
Because of this, Mainwaring left his sexual impulses and moved back in with his family. He does not feel repressed about it at all but rather that it has led to being psychologically healthy. Although he opposed same-sex “marriage” he does support civil unions for gay couples. He argues that “marriage is not an elastic term. It is immutable. It offers the very best for children and society.”
