13 Attorney Generals Begin To Argue Obamacare’s Contraception Mandate

s Contraception Mandate13 Attorney Generals are now urging the government to rescind from its religious discrimination in Obamacare’s contraception mandate. Simply put, the attorneys are arguing that if an employer objects to the use of contraception then the employer should not have to provide coverage for it. Although the Department of Health and Human Services’ proposal on February 1st exempted nonprofit religious organizations from having to provide contraceptive coverage, the group of attorney generals still argue that the exemption should also be extended to all objecting employers.

According to the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, the main fighter against Obamacare’s contraception mandate, at least 24 suits have been filed against and 16 have received a temporary injunction. Moreover, about 30 lawsuits have been filed by nonprofit religious groups but they were dismissed because the fines for not complying don’t start until 2014.

The attorneys general come from Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.
