Gov. Rick Perry Vows Texas Won’t Be ‘Held Hostage’ to Obama

Screen Shot 2013-04-03 at 1.36.25 AMTexas Gov. Rick Perry is withstanding pressure and refusing to cave to Obamacare’s call for states to accept Medicaid expansions, saying to do so would be foolish and shortsighted.

“Texas will not be held hostage to the Obama administration’s attempt to force us into this fool’s errand,” he said, during Monday comments quoted by Politico. Mr. Perry is one of a handful of Republican governors who are balking at Medicaid’s expansion for financial reasons.

States that have accepted the Medicaid provisions say the program will actually lead to financial solvency. Mr. Perry sees it the opposite.

“They will come to rue the day because Medicaid will take a larger and larger share of their state budgets,” he said in the Politico report.
