“The Bible” Series Ends With Breaking Numbers

The bible finaleThis past Easter Sunday was the series finale of “The Bible” on the History Channel. According to Deadline.com, 11.7 million viewers tuned in to the finale which featured the death and resurrection of our Savior, a 14% increase from the previous week. This made “The Bible” the top show on the History Channel for the month of March. Just as it should be.

I watched the entire series and loved it. While it does not remain perfectly true to the biblical texts in certain parts, I believe the Father’s heart is blessed with this kind of television rather than Honey Boo Boo or Jersey Shore. I have said it repeatedly and I will say it again: if you are a Christian and you are lambasting the series then what are you doing for the Kingdom? How are you using your time, talent, and treasure to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ? You’re not? In that case, be quiet and let the rest of us get to work.

The bible series was so successful that Michael Landon Jr. is said to be working on a new series called “Jesus Of Nazareth.” While there is no TV spot yet, the success of “The Bible” will surely open many doors for this new endeavor.

My favorite part of the entire bible series was not the special effects, though they were pretty impressive. It was not the war scenes or even the resurrection of Christ, though it is certainly the most important part of the Gospel. My favorite part was the conversion of Matthew, the tax collector. During this scene, Jesus comes up to Matthew and they both recite the words of Luke 18:13 with tears coming down Matthew’s face: “God have mercy on me, I’m a sinner.” What was also striking about this part is that the disciples told Jesus to “move on” from the filthy tax collectors as they were passing by. Thanks be to Jesus that He saw us in our filthy wretchedness and did not “move on” but gave up His life for us.

What was your favorite part?
