Terror Proofing Your Life, pt IV: Apex Predator

Barbary_lion1 Peter 5:8 — Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Since the Boston Bombings in April I have noticed quite a bit of fear gripping our nation. I have seen news report after news report of where someone dropped a backpack off and people went running. Safety is a major concern in our country right now and rightly so, but letting fear take over will not bring you the safety and security you desire, because today’s society is infested with violence, terrorism, victimization, abuse, and all sorts of evil that extends all the way to the top of our national leadership.

This is what the Bible calls sin and no one is immune from its influence. While we are in this world, whether directly or indirectly, we will all experience its sting to some degree. However, we are not without hope. The Bible has given us everything necessary to live a prosperous and healthy life. That includes keys to terror proofing our lives.

In 1 Peter 5:8 Peter tells us to be sober-minded and to be watchful of the lion. He goes on to describe Satan being like a lion on the prowl. I am sure everyone has seen the National Geographic specials on lions. Lions are an apex predator (meaning it has no natural predator).

During those shows it focuses on how lions operate. It shows us that they sneak around low to the ground scouting out their prey. They don’t attack the strongest or fastest of whatever they are hunting, they attack the weak, the old, the sick, or the loner.

In order to effectively terror proof our life we must first give our fear to God, be aware of our environment, not be a victim of our circumstances, and think like an apex predator. Peter wants us to understand our enemy’s Modus Operandi (mode of operating.)
