Zimmerman, Immigration, etc: Whatever Happened to Attention to Detail?
Having spent time in the U.S. Air Force as an officer and a pilot, it was drilled into my head how important it was to pay attention to detail. Failure to do so caused many an airman to face an untimely demise. Such exact things as range, airspeed and altitude can be the difference between life and death, a hit or a miss. And so, now as a senior citizen, it frustrates me to see my country go down the tubes as our “leaders” and the “free and independent press” ignores important details with regard to issues that we face.
As low information citizens, we have been trained to accept such enlightened pronouncements from our leaders as, “we have to pass the bill so that we can find out what’s in it.” And the press isn’t bothered by any of this. In fact, they promote it.
In the case of the Zimmerman trial, the press is actually guilty of stirring up a lynch mob mentality and the justice system cooperates by indicting a man without any evidence. In all of the press reports, numerous details are ignored. The worst is that in every case they picture Trayvon Martin as a little, innocent twelve year old. The truth: he was 17, had a history of stealing and was almost a head taller than Zimmerman. But, the details don’t fit the pre-selected media narrative, so truth is ignored. Their hatred of anyone who would dare to defend themselves with a gun will justify inflaming racial hatred and violence.
Presently our country is debating a “comprehensive” immigration bill. It’s another monstrosity like the health care bill with thousands of pages of details. We are promised by the supporters, including the media, that the senate bill includes the strongest border enforcement measures ever written. We are to trust that this government, which lies to us on a daily basis, is going to secure the border before granting amnesty to “illegals”.
We are being persuaded to ignore the detail that the fence that was supposed to be built by law, was never built. We are expected to ignore the fact that there are no metrics in the bill to determine if the border is secure. That judgment is left up to the secretary of the DHS, who has already declared that the border is secure and has ordered ICE to “stand down”. Ignore those ranchers in Arizona telling you about a steady stream of hikers.
We are also expected to believe that the 11 million illegal aliens in our country all want to be citizens and will voluntarily come forward and pay a fine and start paying taxes, even though, according to the sponsors, they already have “de-facto amnesty”. If they already have amnesty, then what exactly is the motivation to shell out a few thousand dollars?
