Atheist Powers, Activate!

Recently, I wrote a piece on The Hidden Report regarding Air Force Chaplain Kenneth Reyes and his online post “There are no atheists in foxholes”. I was very surprised to find that many people took very strong issue with this article, namely Atheists. I didn’t realize that the above statement was the equivalent to calling someone’s mother a skank or something.

I recognize that Clashdaily is heavily based on Christian values, and I respect those values very much. I was raised in the Christian faith, and though I still consider myself a very spiritual person, I have to be honest with you guys and state that at this time I am not practicing the religion. That being said, though, I believe that anyone that wishes to practice any religion should have the right to do so as long as they don’t hurt anyone else in the process.

You’d think by the reactions I received from some readers that I spoke about having sexual relations with their mother at a truck stop or something. One twitter user in particular, along with a few of his cohorts, took heavy issue with my writing “There are no atheists in foxholes”. He wrote me and said, “That is strongly offensive to me as an atheist, how dare you force any faith on me.”

Initially, as I was reading this response I could not tell if this guy was being serious or if he was just mocking liberals and their “Oh I find this so offensive” politically correct bull crap. It turns out that this guy was serious, this wasn’t an elaborate joke.

I attempted over and over to explain to him that, in my view, what that statement means is that when it hits the fan, we all believe in something greater than ourselves! Even if that something is a memory, love, God, whatever, but you believe in something! Again he responded with “Wow, you disgusting bigot! That is offensive to me as a non-faith person!” He repeatedly asked me, “Why do you support a hateful, religionist bigot using tax dollars to spread bigotry and force his faith on Atheists.”

He never answered my question when I asked him if HE served our country, or if HE was ever in combat or in a foxhole. He never answered my question when I asked him about the current liberal regime and what they are doing with our tax dollars! He just asked the same stupid question over and over.

Now let me tell you something about myself, I’m pretty reasonable and patient with people. I pride myself on keeping my composure and not losing my cool. That says a lot considering my being a liberal in recovery and all! In addition to this I do not like to take away someone’s voice, I generally don’t delete other people’s commentary, even if I don’t agree with them, but I had no choice but to block this guy on twitter.

At one point I received 90 @replies from this guy! Half of those were him asking me the same question over and over, “Why are you ok with a bigot using tax dollars to support his spread of bigotry”. The other half were him calling me names and insulting me. So yes, he eventually started getting quite annoying. So I decided to look at his timeline and I saw all that I needed to see. It became evident to me that all this guy does is troll the interwebz for anyone that says anything remotely religious or anti-atheist and then he attacks them.
