SECRETARY OF PERSONALITY KERRY CLAIMS: ‘US On the Road to Defeating ISIS’
Fresh back from hosting a James Taylor sing-along in Paris, Secretary of Personality Kerry is doing what Obamunists do best — riding the coat tails of someone else’s success.
That someone else in this case is Jordan.
Following the horrific video footage of Jordanian prisoner of war Muath al-Kaseasbeh’s death by immolation, the Jordanians have performed admirably in striking at the heart of the Islamic State. They’ve increased air strikes against ISIS targets in Syria, and they’ve executed ISIS prisoners confined in Jordanian prisons.
In other words, the Jordanians have taken tangible actions against the Islamic State. What then is Secretary of Personality Kerry talking about?
National Security Advisor Susan Rice, speaking at the Brookings Institute, provided part of it when she reiterated the administration’s position that radicalized Islam doesn’t present an existential threat to the west and then advised against knee-jerk alarmism based on what pops up in the news cycle. Barack Obama himself provided the other part of the answer.
On Thursday, speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, Barack Obama equated the current actions of radlcal Islamists with a sickening caricature of Medieval History and modern day America. From a mis-reading of the Crusades, through the Inquisition, no mention of the Reformation, and on to slavery and Jim Crow, Obama essentially asked “who are we to question radical Islam when centuries ago people who called themselves Christians did bad things too”. It was moral relativism on steroids.
That the same Barack Obama who once demonized Pennsylvania voters for bitterly clinging to their “guns or religion” is theologically astute enough to discuss Christian history is as ridiculous a notion as the idea that Obama is being intellectually honest when he discusses radicalized Islam. Ridiculous if the expectation is that a sitting US President would recognize an existential threat and act accordingly to counter it.
Obama views the threat differently. As competition. The persistent presence of radicalized Islam places in his way a narrative that runs contrary to contemporary progressive narratives. Meeting that presence head on also runs contrary to those narratives — after all, a key narrative blames the US and war for the problems of the Middle East. Instead, ignorance of the threat is the strategy of choice. Obama hopes that if the Islamic State is ignored enough, its narrative will drift into obscurity — even as a war prisoner is locked in a cage and burned alive for all the world to see.
That’s why no one from the administration went to participate in the Paris marches — what should have been a community organizer’s dream. That’s why National Security Advisor Susan Rice musters up all the bravado she can find and explains that the new security agenda, “strategic patience”, will be tough while reminding us that “progress won’t be quick or linear”.
Strategic patience? Progress that’s slow and irregular? That’s what has placed the “US on the road to defeating ISIS”? How so when it seems to be a see-no-evil-hear-no-evil strategy?
The administration is certainly capable of acting when the narrative agrees with theirs.
They wasted no time in dispatching Justice Department officials to Ferguson, Missouri. They moved in a quick and linear fashion on health-care, stimulus, and amnesty. Same can be said for Obama’s free community college idea. These aren’t competing with Obama so they are pushed impulsively, for they help to inform his fundamental transformation of America.
Radicalized Islam competes with Obama and so he tries to shoo it away. Draw false equations in which he discredits other things — Christianity and American history — in order to try and discredit the Islamic State. All in the hope that the narrative will find it’s way back to whatever soaring oratory escapes his lips next time he stands before his teleprompter. Ignore the beheadings and immolations, instead adhere strictly to the tired old progressive narratives and await the next hand-out program.
Is it any wonder then that John Kerry is so desperate to claim ISIS is on the run that he’ll hitch a ride on Jordanian coat tails to try and make it so?
