GOOD NEWS AND A WARNING FOR AMERICA: City Upon a Hill and Oil

Bad news abounds across the spectrum but behind the curtain, outside of the mainstream media’s 24 hour feeding frenzy, is good news.

Two things rise in my mind and one huge warning. First, the good news.

Under the radar is the beginning of an American Renaissance. To get perspective, one must go back to the 1930s. Working through research on my two latest Science Fiction books (Just published on Amazon), I discovered a fascinating set of raw records about the Texas Rangers in the lawless East Texas oil basin of the 1930s during its boom surge through drilling, pipeline construction, and sprints of normal Americans to astonishing wealth.

Today’s rough equivalents reach across North America from the Appalachians to West Texas, north into the Dakotas and Canada. It exploits shale, new oil discoveries, and Natural Gas deposits. Small companies using new techniques, building pipelines, and even massive Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) refineries and ports along our coast lines point toward the buildout of a subtle but increasingly vital infrastructure.

It is to the point where Europe, Japan, and Asian nations have contracted for hundreds of billions of revenue over the next ten years. Even European leaders are getting into the process by writing letters to Congress requesting accelerated approval of facilities and infrastructure able to meet their energy needs for the next several decades. One analyst stated that the new discoveries and shale possess more petroleum resources than what the world consumed for the past 100 years. Tiers of impact stretch into new tanker ship construction, new rail and rail car construction, and the millions of Americans potentially employed in support tasks ranging from fast food to Engineering to funding new science degree programs at Universities. All of that is happening in imitation of the 1930s Oil Boom in East Texas.

Another interesting similarity is that the Federal Government in the 1930s languished through the depression while ordinary Americans quietly made gas and electricity cheap commodities through cheap oil. My father in law retired from a fabulous career at Texas Power and Light. His quiet assertion, one night, was that cheap electricity did more to save America on the eve of World War II than almost anything the Federal Government did in the Great Depression. Project that forward to our situation, today. I hate to admit it but I like a floundering, increasingly ineffective Federal Government that is more worried about Hillary’s email servers than an 80 employee company in West Texas pumping natural gas.

The second piece of good news is that cheap energy has the potential of restoring America’s preeminent strategic position in the world. It is fascinating that the Barbarians did not assault the gates of Rome until Roman economics weakened to the point where the barbarians no longer cared about Roman markets. At its powerful economic zenith, Rome maintained order from the Iberian Peninsula to the Caspian Sea with an Army of less than 200,000. That makes the requirement to take out Iran’s nuclear capabilities even more important because that is a capability and an enemy that threatens our renaissance at home.

Those incredible blessings come with a warning about our economy and our currency. The dollar is the currency of the world because it is supported by petroleum. The more petroleum a dollar can buy, the stronger our currency. That subtle observation is based on the fact that most petroleum products are traded internationally in dollars. Yet, mismanagement of the dollar by the Fed is the number one enemy of the dollar and our economy.

Stepping into the faith realms a moment, the American Renaissance must be accompanied with revival across our land. We are a people dedicated to protecting innocent blood. Not so much, anymore. Our Government should get out of the business of socializing our economy and return to the first tenets of our founding fathers. Those tenets focused on justice, staying out of the way of American ingenuity and business, and protecting innocent blood, as opposed to posturing in places like Ferguson.

Protecting Innocent blood includes standing up for people in central Asia in dire straits under the thumb of evil like ISIS. At present, our GREY politicians and leaders in Washington, D.C. cannot see past their agendas to even define what innocent blood is. It is actually simple. Ass-wipes who rape and murder their way across women and girls, destroying families, are evil and should be targeted.

American Renaissance and American Revival. The potential blessings are in place for both. Our task is to open up those gifts, climb that mountain and become the light filled city on the hill John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Augustine termed in their descriptions of great peoples and great nations.
